About a different view of Half dome at Yosemite. I like the contrast between the golden colors of half dome taken at sundown and the silhouettes of the trees and the foreground. I debated about putting a frame around the image but decided against it.
PS work: minor adjustment on brightness/contrast
actual aperture: 6.7

Awesome tones and shadows Paul.
I really like yours perspective.
And the title is perfect for this fascinating rock formation.
Best wishes.

Light on the dome is beautiful. Great time of the day to photograph. But I would have preferred less darkness in the foreground.

Paul: I think the barred clouds make this one. Super it is! Sunset is always tough because then you have to get back out after dark.

Great composition with the dark silhouettes in the foreground and the great colors on the rock and linear clouds in the sky. Fantastic image, and perfect panoramic! Best regards, Ina

Paul -- Love the color of Half Dome in this image and the wispy rows of horizontal clouds behind. Certainly not a clique image! Nice vision.

Nice to see a different view of this amazing piece of granite. When i was in my 20's I met my first wife while climbing this face. I have also done the vertical side too and watched as 2 climbers got rescued below us. It was wierd seeing a flying helicopter from above as it was flying.

Hi Paul, I picture this one in a huge advertorial poster, using the dark silhouette as background for the textual elements. Great shot, and a very well balanced composition. I agree that a frame would be a bit redundant for this photo. Good stuff!

Cheers,

Hugo

Really pretty Paul. That closest rock formation looks like a cowl on a robe. It reminds me of a giant walking by a hillside...only his head visible. :)
You have a very pleasing portfolio. A lot of outstanding shots. Thanks for commenting to me, it's very much appreciated.

Majestic is right! This is a very nice take on Half Dome - I love the way you framed it naturally with the inky black silhouettes! You sure do get around! :)

This is very well seen and presented, Paul. I like the alternative view.

But perhaps the granite face itself is a little "flat" in terms of light. Or is it just my eyes?

Take care!
Angelo.

Thanks, I did try cropping the tree/branches and I liked the results. But, it changed the panaoramic look of the image which I wanted to keep. I probably could have kept the perspective by cloning out the tree but I guess that is more work than I wanted to do....

This is a beautiful image of Half Dome. I love the warm colours, unusual cirrus clouds in the sky and the panoramic presentation but I too would like to see the tree on the left cropped out. I would crop the trunk and clone the smaller branches. I can understand the apprehension about cloning as I am a little Photoshop (as well as technically) challenged and would rather get things as right as possible in the camera. I expect you did climb the tree to get another perspective? (just kidding) :) A wonderful image.

Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on my images Paul.

Cheers - Ann :)

The golden tones also contrast quite nicely with the background cirrus clouds!

Oww, outstanding composition, Paul. Great light and contrast. No frame is needed, I think..:)

Thanks roger, I will say that the image does not look as good on Usefilm, guess it is because of the panoramic format... glad that you like it.

Well, Paul, AMYTHING in panorama format immediately prejudices me in favour! It works pretty well with this one, I think... I like the contrast you mention and applaud your decision not to put a frame around it. Those long streaming clouds are something I've never seen (they suit the horizontal format, too ).

thanks.. actually I did try cropping the tree on the left but it messed up the balance of the image due to how much of the image had to be cropped. I expected someone to mention cropping the tree because it seems so obvious. I think that cloning the tree out of the image would be better but I am usually hesitant about cloning or changing an image too much in PS.

An impressive sight with great colours/contrasts! I like the lines in the sky combined with the black line in the foreground. I?d like to crop off the tree on the left, though :)

Excellent pattern, the light works fabulous at the background, with the natural framing silhouette enhances the composition, not knowing the circumstances, I?d like to see another shot from a different foreground approach, super. Saeed

Nice silhouettes Paul and nice natural framing of the half dome too..I like the letterbox presentation and I don't think you need a frame on this..it's great just as it is! Well done!

Hi Paul,

the contrast is great and I think the image would fit in the previous project as well. I like the majestic picture format as well. the sky with it's streams looks almost surreal to me.

good to see some new stuff from ya.

best wishes,
Thilo
