About We were given an assignment to take some images with different exposures of an area that had a good mixture of white and shadow areas. (to be used for practicing dodging and burning in the darkroom) Once I got set up with the tripod. An old guy in his overcoat decided to stroll right through my set-up. I would have liked him a little deeper into the shot. But I'll take this.

Thank you Anne.
Another image of mine that I had almost forgotten about.

There are times when I think maybe I should take most of my images down and just leave a few up on Usefilm. But then when someone digs a couple up and comments on them, I think maybe it is still worthwhile to leave them up.

Sylvie,
Thanks for going back so far when visiting my portfolio.
I'm glad you like this one. It just goes to show... never throw any of your old images away. I took this and worked on it in the darkroom many years ago. (Around 1972 I think) And now you see it, and like it enough to comment. :)
Isn't the Internet wonderful :)

Judi,
So right!
If I would have stopped him and asked him to walk through my shot, he never would have done it. He would have thought I was crazy. ... I should say even crazier!

Right moment....well done. Sometimes the unplanned shots work the best.

Thanks again Darlene,
I also posted the single frame of the one with the man walking by. I think it worked out pretty well.

Hi Thilo,
Thanks for the comment on this shot too.
To answer your question on the "lessons".
Nothing for years....
When I first became interested in photography, around 1967/68. I signed up for a high school night course, run by one of the local teachers who was an amateur photographer. That is where I first used a the darkroom equipment (very poor stuff) and made a pin-hole camera (the usual lessons). I signed up the next year to continue using the darkroom.
But my next step was the best thing that I ever did. When I bought my Nikkormat, I enrolled on some Photographic Arts courses at night-time at the Ryerson Photographic Arts and Media program, in Toronto. They had first class, state of the art darkrooms with beautiful Omega enlargers. We could also use the studio with the price of the course. Also state of the art. I had the same instructor there for a couple of years and he always challenged the class with different home image taking assignments. The above photo is from one of the assignments.
Several other images that I have posted here in the past year were originally printed in those classes.
It was many years ago now, but a good image is still a good image :)
About a year after I got my little Fuji S5000, I started coming here and this place has definitely got my creative juices flowing again.
One thing you miss when being away from a class room atmosphere is all the great conversation and ideas that get thrown around. Coming to this site and talking to people like you and many other friends here reminds me of those days.
Most of the people I know only appreciate photography for the family snap shot variety :)

Hi Andre,

I like the double play here. I'm with you on the position of the old man. But hey: The image is fine as it is. The bold outcome is perfect for me.

You are taking lessons?

best wishes,
Thilo

I love the presentation here Andre - very similar yet, the addition of the man walking through creates a whole new atmosphere to the photo. Very nice contrasts between the dark and light colors and solid angle to each shot. Well executed.

Thank Kevin,
I was going to attach a third with the man walking in the dark area to the left, but it didn't work out so well. It would have suited the title better though.

Thanks again Shady,
I wish we could post two or three beside each other so that we could display a project or a progression properly. The best we can do is post pictures four or five shots apart. Unless there is not a lot of activity at the time.
