you are the Colour King, but nice to see you trying other things - keeps it interesting :-)

not sure which of the 2 web shots I prefer, in a way the darker backgorund of the other makes the web stand out more, but the nice variation in tones on this also makes for an interesting shot.

frame's spor on for this shot too.

This is a great one for black and white. I like this even better than the hi contrast one. This has more tones. Nice work Chris. Don.

One of the strongest materials for its size in the world. The ice illustrates this magnificient substance, wonderfully, in your fine BW shot, Chris. It was good of nature to sculpt this impressive abstract for you! An exceptional shot, Chris, and into my favourites.

Fantastic shot, a challenger for the "Patterns in Nature" project(I think that's the new one). Effective composition, and use of DOF.
BTW .... the D70 not having a B+W mode is actually an advantage as it forces you to think in B+W. You need to VISUALIZE how the picture might look, not allow the the camera to make that decision. With a colour image you have many more options in Photoshop and this will give you control over how the pic turns out. I used to shoot B+W film exclusively, but now with my D70 and a little practise on the computer, I feel my digital B+W pics are every bit as good as those I shot on Tri-X. I think you will find B+W will be an enjoyable photgraphic journey, and with your skill at composition and seeing the beauty in the landscape, I know it will be a successful one.

B&W has its challenges--and its rewards. You're doing splendidly and I'm really enjoying the progression. Are you having fun with the change of pace? I guess so, since you keep doing it! By "disaster" I presume you mean for the spider. Can't feel too sympathetic, I'm afraid...

Looks like a good one here.
Dont give up.
Personally, I feel that film makes for better black and white then digital, but thats just me.
Keep at it, you can only get better.

It just dawned on me you use the D70 and it doesn't do B&W, which I know. I was down hearted when I found that out. That makes doing these a wee bit harder because not all shots will respond well to the conversion to BW. I use my Oly if I want to do BW's. Enough about me. This is a stunning capture of a rare sight. I watched a show about the Crown Jewels and this reminds me of the filigree in the tiaras beautiful. Well done my friend. Into my favs.

Stupendous image Chris. B/W is a field all on it's own isn't it? This is pretty strong to me. Congratulations!!
My first impression was it was a pice of crotcheting, my Grandmother sat hours doing that. I once had a bedspread that she'd made by that method. That was a work of art as is your shot.
Boy, I bet it was cold when you took it.

I hate spiders, hahaha, I had to look at the thumbnail very closely to make sure there was no spider in there before opening it. Wow, great capture, excellent patterns in nature too for the new project, nice choice of black and white Chris, perfect composition, very nicely done!

Great capture Chris. If your camera has the facility to turn off the colour and do black and white in camera try it. It will make you think in black and white... hopefully.
