Thanks for your great comment Scott!
It was indeed not too easy to get the youngsters cooperate, especially since they had never before met the older men. However, I must say, the gentleman was so good with children, that they immediately felt at ease with him, resulting in some great shots.
I definately agree on the cropping. When I have some time (expect that to be around 2020), I will definately upload some cropped versions here.

A very attractive image that has captured well a connection between the older gentleman and young child.
Straight `away im thinking almost finding myself assuming the two are related and comfortable with each other.
With the extremes of white and black in the photograph its always going to be a compromise in the exposure.
Lots of detail in the wings draw the eyes toward center and perhaps with slightly more fill on the older gentlemans wing it would help.
If you lost the lowest part of the photo where the pants were included and select instead to disclude them you will notice right away how much more distinguished the older gentleman would look.
And by the way congratulations on getting the young ones cooperation which is quite difficult at the best of times

Magical image! Very good composition. could get rid of the wing's elastic ties if you want to further improve the image.

The idea here is fabulous.
I love that the feather is the focal point, and both angels are interacting with it.
The look on the little angel's face is priceless, I think he and the feather deserve to be an image all on their own.
Beautiful. CC

What a delightful image! I wish the boy's wings were a little more within the frame, but other than that, wonderful idea!

Can't understand why this one has no comments yet - I think it's brilliant(and very sexy). One minor criticism - I'd crop the tree behind to concentrate more on the face.

I think I found an example of what I was talking about (sorry for any confusion). Its called Hand Tinting.

http://www.kpps.com/images/images/Hand%20Tint.jpg (just copy and paste) I hope this helps. Just soft color tinting.

Thank you for your comment, all of you!
As for the pop of colour: you mean keep everything in sepia, except for the girls? That is quite a challenge, don't know how to do that yet, but I will find me a tutorial on the net ;-)

I've always thought this was the most original and stunning portrait. I love the entire composition. I think the photo speaks volumes without any additional extras. The border is beautiful and could do with it or with out it since its such a great photo. I guess its more of a personal preference at this point. You could try and do a pop color for the little girls with a delicate pink on the flowers. Something very soft.

Bjorn,
Grtz,

Alain

To me this is one of those "so near so far" images, where the image hasn't quite worked. The DOF is extremely narrow, and the point of focus appears to be just above the beak area, leaving the left eye just a little soft and the right eye very soft indeed. The eyes themselves are very dark and half hooded, hiding them even more, which is a shame as on these birds the eyes can be reall attention grabbers. I also feel a little burst of soft fill in flash would help bring some of the detail out, and add a nice catchlight in the eye.

I think had I been taking this I would have done what ever it took to get the owl to turn round and look at me, used a softened burst of fill in flash and either gone in closer to just get the eyes filling the frame, or further out to pick up a little more of the bird.
