Wonderful, Michael! Exquisite detail, light and shadow, composition, movement brought in through the cloudscape... This image makes me even more excited to get back to Iberia. Thankyou!

all ok for this shot which is great indeed but I wonder if one from a bit elevated position could reveal the road around the house which here is hidden by the little field at the base of this shot

Very good work indeed, both the individual components and the combination into digital art.

I might have chosen a lighter colour head dress for the portrait to make the entire head visible against the water, but that's nitpicking.

Thanks for your comment Larry. I used the layers facility in Photoshop to size and position four roughly cropped images. I then used the masking tool to paint away the areas of each image which I did not want and adjusted the see-through quality of each image by using layer modes and the opacity control.

Best regards - MikeB

really like diffrent patterns made by the fields and diffrent colors;
for the composition I would concentrate on the fields patterns and I would cut the sky at all;

Thanks for your comment Christophe. Regarding Velvia, it was usually my choice when shooting landscapes and architecture on film because I liked the extra colour saturation it gave my colour transparencies. But, in most cases, a colour transparency is really only a stage in the image making process, the end result will usually be either a colour print, a reproduction in a book or magazine or a web image on a monitor and these are all likely to be different in some degree to the original transparency. I now shoot almost exclusively with a digital camera and the ability to control the captured image makes it possible to achieve the quality of Velvia at will. Ultimately, the final quality of an image depends on the lighting and the way it is controlled in Photoshop and how well it is repoduced. I've attached an image which shows how a captured digital image has been varied using Photoshop controls to give a Velvia-like quality. Best regards - MikeB

Hello Micheal.
Just one word... Woowwwwwwwwww !! I first thought it was a picture of a fantastic movie scene... Just amazing!! It?s probably my first breathtaking picture. The colors are so impressive... I know you need the good guy at the good place at the good time to take such a picture but even if the lightning was perfect in real, the velvia film is helping a lot for the color contrast I suppose (correct me if I'm wrong because I don't know much about film... I'm a numeric user at 200% ) So I was wondering: how do you decide to use a velvia film or a more standard one? My impression is that if you had taken the same picture with a standard film, it would still have been a great picture but this "something magic" would have been missing. On the opposite if you use a velvia film, do you get such good results (talking about the colors only) in most of the case, i.e. with non spectacular lightning, or do you need to have special conditions to get this amazing rendering of colors?
Anyway, when I see your results (for ex. your ?happy new year? from Monument Valley) and the works of others using velvia film, I?m always really impressed by the ?natural? development of the picture. I?m not going to sell all my cameras to changed toward film but gosh it would be great to have a software filter that would create the velvia film effect

One more time, congratulations for this picture (and all the others by the way) and, since I can?t, use LOTS of velvia film for me

Cheers, Chris

this is the greatest and spectacular travel photography ... also a breathtaking view ... but all it was created on film and not on digital ... thus proves, still film has great potentiality than electronic image ... wheather it be 12 or 16 MB pixel category camera ... nicely seen and taken ... what i can be proud for is my country, India has more and more unveiled treasures for everyone ... even i did not know about such a place at Gujarat ... thanks for sharing ...

best,
Bikas
