About A night photo of the north bridge (Bei Qiao) in Chaozhou, eastern Guangdong province.

I spent a several hours on two consecutive nights, trying to find the best place to take photos of this bridge from, and then experimenting with various shutter speeds and apertures.

I went from just a few seconds of exposure up to four minutes. Will go back there tonight from a better vantage point, and try to improve on this one. I'd like to get more of a star-burst effect on the lights, which I got on other images the same night, but which were also slightly overexposed in places.

My next photo of this bridge will be taken from the other side of the river, allowing me to include all of the bridge. The point where I took this one from didn't allow me to go further to the left since I had some shrubs in my way. The advantage in this particular spot though, was that there were no other light sources around me (streetlamps/passing cars/motorcycles with headlights) that might affect the photo, only the bridge lighting.

The investment I recently made in the Nikon MC-30 remote cord is paying off for bulb exposures. If any D200 owners don't have one you should get it.

Any constructive criticism is welcome.

I must admit, i also prefer this one over the other one.

The colours are more defined, the reflections are better, and the image is much sharper. The other image is much more 'washed out' than this one.

The one downside is the minor point that we cant see the end of the bridge, however it is very minor and this is a fantastic shot.

Next time you are in town, we should try the Rama 9 bridge together again.

Well, I'm going to go against both you and Brigitte here - I prefer this one. I think the play of lights is much stronger in this one, as is the composition. I like the limited tones in both - just black white and orange. And though the movement of the water in the other one produces a nice sleek sheen, I think it reduces the impact a little.

This one I think is excellent!

With best wishes for the New Year,
AJ
