michael, wow! very effective treatment. the difference is drastic. much better tonal range, increased contrast and by consequence increased perceived sharpness. thinking about it, it seems that you have effectively "polarized" your IR image. very well done.

i have found that IR shots of predominantly rocky landscapes is not very effective. i think this is well exemplified by the original post. however, your treatment in combination with the waterfall have produced an excellent photograph.

take care,
tom

ps - i have been playing with IR myself and should be posting one soon. i'd love to hear your suggestions on potential treatments.

I agree with you about the smell of the darkroom, I work with PS now and have for about
four years now. There is so much more that you
can do with it compared to the darkroom and no mess!

Carolyn:

Sorry - no darkroom here - don't miss the smell - PS = photoshop, I'm all digital nowadays!

The ND4 filter (neutral density) was very effective for slowing down the shutter speed.
Post processing in the darkroom..sometimes I
miss doing that.

Nicely done, once again.

Carolyn:

I brought along a ND4 filter specifically to slow down my shutter so I could veil waterfalls. The days were so bright the ND4 was not effective. Thus, I turned to my 13 stop IR filter - and viola!

If you look at the previous post in my work, I've given this the "Fadel J" treatment - darkening some of the landscape up and whitening the water so that it "pops" a bit more. Worked different zones of the composition with levels for a tuned up and tweaked view.

I'm also showing people a bit of the differences that occur through PS processing at home. Subtle, but effective.

Outstanding composition and good choice of
slow shutter speed for the waterfalls.

Excellent!
