Location City -  Shenzhen
State -  GUANGDONG
Country - China   China
About 1979-1997. The time when Shenzhen went from small town farm machinery producer and fishing to economic engine of 21st century China. This building is symbolic of what Shenzhen is, a modern city with modern architecture. It's difficult to find any architecture more than 20 years old here.

After some not so good night photography two nights ago (results can be seen in my portfolio) I took the advice of some helpful UF members and by using a smaller aperture and longer shutter speed, I was able to get a nice shot of this building. The cityscape that I shot two nights ago couldnt be done again this evening as the buildings werent lit up the way they were two nights ago.

Incidentally, this is the first RAW image I've ever uploaded. It appears that I used some noise reduction software on the image, but I didnt. Not sure why it looks that way, but overall, I'm pleased with the results.

great work. the smaller aperture really shows here, with much better clarity in the shot. exposure looks perfect.

Wonderful colours, though im surprised that nobody mentioned the overall softness of the image.

Its something im struggling to conquer myself with digital capture.

Hi James,

Very nice three point perspective, and quite a powerful composition in it's simplicity. Excellent tones, too. Shooting RAW is the way to go, I rarely do any different, as it allows you full control over the exposure settings, as well as remove any cyan / magenta fringe. Some RAW importers (like the one in CS) do have a build in Noise Reduction tool - maybe that's what happened!

I'll be in Shenzhen again this October...

Good shot,

Cheers,

Hugo
