Hi Emgy, thank you for your kind and generous comment, glad you liked the barrel cactus. It was about one and one half feet tall...I didn't think about the size factor, glad you asked!!
Have a nice Sunday, Emgy!
Lori ;)

lori, this is awesome! i've tried to shoot these (the pink kind actually) unsuccesfully before but it's always been near sunset. so they're all underexposed (severely). very nicely captured and i especially like the saturation bump. makes it come alive!
take care, tom
PS - thanks so much for your wonderful comment on vertigo. and don't worry, the wife has given me a stern warning and it will not happen again ;^)

So nice and interesting! And I smile when I read your text and you write "certainly nothing special with this", because it's so interesting that what is not special for one person can be really special for someone else. For me this is very original and wonderful AND special! We don't have catuses in Sweden, only tiny little ones that we buy in shop in little pots! :-)

The photo itself may not be special to you but the subject is and you captured it superbely. a gorgeous cactus which you're lucky enough to see in its natural habitat.I've often seen this catctus species at the florist and in botanic gardens. It's a shame that from this shot we can't get an idea of its size. I've seen little ones and also huge ones with and without flowers. They are so beautiful! at any time but particularly when they are in bloem. Cacti have the most amazing and exotic flowers. I love barrel cacti, especially huge ones but they are very expensive in this country and the risk that they don't grow wll or that they die is big. Anyway, this is a great shot the shows us lots of interesting details. A "beauty" of the nature in its most bizar forms. Thanks for sharing, Lori Regards - Emgy

They are so beautiful and last such a short time. Most all the cactus are in bloom here. Have to wait a while for the sagurao. Don.

Hi Brigitte! How are you doing? Company gone? Here is a close up, kind of, of the cactus flowers. I originally started with this one, but then I though maybe those of you who had never seen one should see the whole thing since it's so different! Hope you like this!! 'Talk' to you soon!
Lori :)

Dear Lori I am very disappointed you didn't get very close to take the picture :))). It is a pleasure to see this rare cactus flowers. Not even the Botanical Gardens over here are able to grow them. You were again on the right place in the right time! Beautiful. My best regards, Brigitte

Hi Billiana, In reply to your question, there were no dunes where I was. I would LOVE to shoot some dunes, I am hoping to get to Death Valley, some really NICE ones there!! And hopefully, I will be there at the 'right' time of day! :)

Hi Lori, thanks for sharing this! I haven't seen this before. I like the angle you chose, from the top but then a little to the side. It's nice and sharp and the touch of colour from the flower adds really nice. Compliments, Neil
