Thank you Ina.

Thank you Usefilm for my first award here with this DoD image!

Very nice. Love the composition. I also love the fact that everybody else looks rushed but she is as content as can be sitting there reading. Well done! Her face looks a little dark but I think it's mostly in my lousy work monitor. The lighting on her skin looks great.

Normally, I hate shadows. You have changed my mind. It really makes this photo! Love it. Best wishes with whatever will be keeping you away for a while.

Looks like the happy blondes recruited a new member. Now I can guess which one isn't blonde! Keep having fun...

That's an image to be proud of. The warmness of the lighting goes well with the mood here. The cat is the perfect touch to give it an element of reality. Excellent job!

It looks like this was shot from a slightly low angle. I like it - makes me feel like I'm there. Like she's running to me...ok, I'm fantasizing now. ;) Great job!

Thank you for your comments Ardalan. Patience helps a lot. Hopefully, being patient enough to get the shot I want helps me to me patient outside of photography as well. I just looked through your photos. Loved your photo of the innocent little girl!!!

All my best,
Jeff

Hi Pat - with the dog and girl photo I really do love - thanks for the comments. Although at times I could use more reach, I'm generally happy with the 100-400. I'd be a little worried about shallow DOF with an 800mm lens...and camera shake...and always having to use a tripod. I am fortunate in that my bird photos were taken at a state park in SC that is set up so I can get pretty close. Most photos on here from me were taken there. Patience, thousands of bad shots, and luck got me most of the better photos I've taken there. Merry Christmas to you, your family, and your "puppy"!

Thanks Kristi! The early morning sun really made the colors stand out and I couldn't resist taking the shot.

Arijit - thank you!

Jim - Breakfast actually. The bird ate better than I did that morning as I rushed to get out for first light.

Gennaro - Thank you!

Partha - Thanks as well!

Thanks Ardalan. It was early morning (low) sun and the bird's body actually caused the shadow. Not a thing I could do about that. Obviously, it's not a photo you prepare for so I worked with what I had and just composed and held the shutter button down. There was no cropping of the image - that's straight out of the camera!

I was kidding on both comments. The avoidance was obvious yet she still has a great smile. It really is a great photo!

I don't understand why she is leaning back a little. ;) She has a beautiful smile and that is just a great picture that shows absolute happiness. Is that a dog or a horse????

It's tough to get a good shot of falling snow. You captured the mood perfectly here. The snowflakes are beautifully highlighted and the blue background just contrasts perfectly here. Great job!

Great job Paul! Perfect title too. Plenty of detail and sharpness; right down to the feathers under the beak. You certainly didn't have much DOF to work with but you got it right here.

Selim - I am glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment.

Linda - I agree - I'm just glad nobody is trying to take pictures of me while I'm eating and having a bad hair day! Thanks for the comment.

Alicia - Elegant is a good word for how beautiful this bird is. Thank you.

Star Trek??? This is the thing that came up from the bottom of the ocean at the end of "The Abyss", right???

Stunning shot and just amazing exposure and lighting...while holding on to details in the sky.

Very nice and festive. I like the simplicity of the black dress, the solid red sack, and the solid red wrapping - nothing is too extreme to detract from the subject. The gifts fit in nicely with the backdrop and Martha Stewart would certainly be proud of the wrapping! Looks like a metering challenge. With elves like that, it's no wonder Santa is always smiling! Nicely done and Merry Christmas!

Bill - thanks for noticing it and commenting. It seems like a lot of stuff slips through the cracks here. I was shooting down on the bird and the water in the background just made it stand out even more with the contrast. You have some incredible shots as well. Great array of birds, loved the mushroom, the Winter scene, the Michigan deer, the fawn you saved, and your close-up of a goose or something that slipped by without a single comment (I'll fix that). I am very envious of your other fawn pictures as well. I was trying for that in the photo I have but didn't quite get what I wanted...will have to wait for early Summer to try again.

Thanks Brian - you are right. That would also make it a less centered shot and would play better with the rule of thirds. I'll crop it differently when I print it.
