Lovely capture of the Monarch. I missed them this year. I was hoping to get a good picture of some, but that did not happen. Thanks for sharing yours. I really lie the background--it compliments the butterflies very well.

The Butterfly was backlit and had harsh sunlight and I used a diffused flash to eliminate the harsh shadows (and to reduce noise)
Another problem I've been having is that I've pushed my glass pretty far and I'm starting to get abnormalities and I've had to adjust them in photoshop. I will hopefully be eliminating this problem with a strong diopter (+10) I've ordered and/or the raynox 250 macro lense.

Most lady bugs are deep orange in colour and have depending on the species of beetle different amount of spots. This type isn't orange but grey, and so it's called an Ashy Grey Lady Bug or sometimes an Ashy Grey Lady Beetle.

Yes it's a ladybug, but this type is called an Ashy Grey Ladybug they are in B&W :)

Nice shot Geoff, I took a shot of one of these a couple of days ago, I think it's excactly the same butterfly, I'll put it up next. This butterfly has very nice colours and is a fair size, great shot.
