Kids & pumpkins! Well done for this wonderful season of the year.
Smart to do B&W and avoid the overwhelming of the pumpkin color. Good crop and use of selective focus.

I have the same lens and I never use it...After seeing this photo maybe I'll start. Great bokeh and perfect DOF. This would be hanging on my wall.

Amy,

I have always use a Pentax K1000 totaly manual camera, until I went digital a little over a year ago. That is why I know manual settings. Use a manual camera and you have to know what this stuff means.

Go to: www.cs.mtu.edu/~shene/DigiCam/User-Guide/950/depth-of-field .html

See if that makes any sense at all. Any questions let me know...

Martin,

Ok, don't laugh. I don't reall know what f/stop is either.

I am just learning more than just time value.

I have been shooting with a Canon Elan 7 for the past few years until last week when I upgraded to the Rebel XT digital.

So, I am here more as a student, looking to learn all I can to be better at this.

Any help is welcomed.

Thanks,
Amy

Amy,

Just give me your shutter speed, f/stop and ISO and I can tell you how to get a deeper DOF... ;)

Very pretty presentation of the velvet mushroom. Pretty also grass on your backyard. The hat very much would also look smart with a bit of the sun but we have the autumn after all...

Amy,

I thought, that was the case, just checking my eyes out, as I purchased the Rebel and a 18-55mm for my Son last Christmas.

Dang I hate getting old, LMAO

Martin,

Thanks for the comment. I clicked the wrong square for the lens. I have since corrected the information. It was a Canon 18-55. Thanks again.

Amy,

Spot on IMHO, except for the DOF, in which could be a bit deeper...
