don't worry about the missing tail, it takes hundreds of shots to get some perfect butterflies - except if they are dead ;-(
you did a good shot! try to close aperture as much as possible next time to get more depth of field, and ... be generous with film i.e. take a couple of shots with various exposures if you want perfect shots
i like this one
best regards
Roland

Chad; this is really a very powerful image. It's been my experience that seldom does a sky work as the sole subject, but it certainly does here. This photo could be titled "Birth of Earth" or something sexy and poetic like that. As the stars really not part of this composition, I think I'd clone out the one that does show as it's a bright spot of distraction. Ever played god before;>)?-- clone a star out of existance! Beautiful shot! Cheers. Craig

I like the layout of this one a lot better... although you could use some reflected light bounced into the middle of the food to brighten it up. You can use foamcore from the hardware store, or posterboard from Walmart... as long as it's white or silver, it will do the same thing. Position a light onto your "reflector" and move closer until the light is evenly lighting up your subject. This is must better than pointing a light directly at the food, as it will be softer and more appealing.

Since the food is the main subject here I would try to isolate one or two pieces on a small plate, with the drizzled chocolate and red sauces. There is too much to look at here, and since the food is all the same I think you can get away with just showing one or two, and it will clean up the appearance. That way, you can focus your lighting a bit better to bring out the texture of the food. Is this shot with natural light? If not, what was your setup?
I find that light with a slight orange-ish hue will make for great food shots, as it warms up the scene and gives a nice glow to the food. This can be done with orange cellophane (dollar stores have this) over the lights or by using a desk lamp with the normal bulb.
In this shot your presentation looks a bit sloppy, as the tablecloth has some major creases in it and the plate that the food is on has some big reflections. Maybe instead of a plate to put these on, if you like the reflected food, try a plate of glass from a picture frame. Place some dark fabric under the glass and play with the lighting until you get a crisp, clear reflection of the food.
Food shots can be hard to achieve, but once you find the right combo, they can be fun and look stunning. All the best!

Chad- Nice photo, I noticed you asked for comments one thing that adds to fireworks photos is something in the forground. Boats, buildings ect.---- of course this year I couldn't get in the right spot too try that again.

nice job on a tough shot (for me anyway). how did you manage to capture the fireworks without being bothered by ambient light? You really caught some nice colors in this one.

Those eyes are talking to you. "What have we done? Why chase us? What are you pointing at us?" Great snapshot/spur of the moment catch. I just shows we should have a camera with us at all times.

Another nice shot that will be greatly improved when you correct the color cast (see my comment on the next shot for some more details. The focus is slightly soft, but not really a problem due to the shallow DOF which puts the background nicely out of focus... Nice job.

This is another wonderful capture, with perfect timing, DOF and detail. The only thing that needs improving is the color balance, as there is an overall slightly greenish cast to the tones that is not there in your first shot of this series. This can easily be corrected with an image editing program like Photoshop, or Elements, or Paint Shop Pro. Can be done in a snap, and well worth the extra effort to do this image justice. Give it a try. Very good work, Chad.

and this is yet good too...the shallow dof leaves the focus on the face and the slightly blurred background adds interest to the picture...the backlighting of the ear is good and not too distracting...wonder who is looking at who here
