I agree about the shadows... but the opportunity arose to take the photo at 3pm, so whats a poor guy to do ??? I will return later to try a shot early one morning, just hope a Lily or 2 is blooming then...

the leaves are too distracting from the main subject here. lovely pinks, but the focus on the flower is taken away. a more selective cropping/photograph would be a good idea. keep it up. (oh, and for this shot, you may want to wait until dusk or sunrise so that the shadows aren't so noticable on the flowers)

They do look related... I live in central Texas , how about you? Once after a storm from the gulf coast, I went out early to leave for work and thought I saw a bat that had landed on my garage door... as I approaced, discovered it was a moth (missed the photo) and it was HUGE, wingspan larger than my hand, so I figured it got caught up in the winds from the storm and blew in from Central or South America, only wish I could have gotten a photo....

I know the pic is blurry but this guy looks rather similar. Maybe they're first cousins or something. I like to turn on the porch light at night and wait about an hour. The wall under the light is always covered with moths. I got pics of eight different kinds of moths the other evening. Nice talking to you, get out there and shoot somemore BUGS.

Yes, my boat trailer was in my back yard, and I noticed he had landed near the ground on the tire... what interested me most was I had never noticed a moth with that color pattern, but saw on Megapixel.net another photo (after I took this one) that someone else had taken of the same type of moth... so I guess they aren't so rare...

After a little research, found out they are called Spiderwort.... not sure if you have them up that way or not.... but if it's a weed, it probably grows everywhere...

lol---yes! Being from Illinois wildflower country...that is exactly what they are---weeds. But they do so brighten up the monotonous green of just plain ole grass.

Dwight,
I held the camera up beside my face, closer to the passenger seat, and framed it using the read LCD display.

I love it!
My dog gets that eager gleam in his eye when I grab my car keys, and on most trips, I cannot say 'no'.
Here's my own rendition of the experience:

Thanks for the input Brian. I waivered one way then the other when trying to decide what camera to buy last November... I really wanted the Nikon Coolpix 5700, but the reviews were impressive for the Minolta DiMage A1 and the image stabilization is what convinced me to go with the Minolta. I have been practicing for 6 months now, and still don't feel like it(I) has taken a decent photo yet. Indoor photos are very noisey, and sometimes low light outdoor too. I'll keep after it though....

Nice capture. Fair composition. Put the subject off to the side, top or bottom. Could be a little sharper.
