well it's very easy to overdo with Tone Mapping ;-)
I try to use the filter as a way to bring just a little bit (let's say 10%) more life into certain images.

the image is well composed and gets some extra spice with the colors and the misty fog. The trees seem to try to make their way thru the foggy atmosphere.

the play of light makes the image. awesome split and a nice idea for showing the silhouettes. maybe a lower viewpoint would be also great to get the silhouettes against the lighter parts...

first, I worked with Capture NX. Then I added some effects with the channel mixer. But most of the stuff came from Capture NX.
