Dan, How are you. Re: this bromeliad...it is from a "pineapple" family of plants and not quite sure if it is a succulent, but it definitely is not a cactus to my knowledge. Then again I could be wrong except for the name of it..."aechmea faciata".They are sold at the local nurseries here in New York. Very popular plant for 2004. Best....

Dear Bill, this close-up composition is fantastic. I like this delicate colors and this fine spiky "leaf". Perhaps I would try to capture this blossom without the green "basic" leaf. Congratulation for this outstanding work.

Thanks Linn, Nice of you to stop by again and always appreciate your comments. Here is a bird's eye view of the "aechmea faciata". It isn't that sharp as the f2 and hand shake threw it off. -- Bill

What a happy couple! These images put on bags are extremely popular. They have taken South Africa by storm but unfortunately the price is totally ridiculous. I would have loved having a bag like that myself, with my Ragdolls on it - but paying 1200 Rands for it is waaaay out of my league. Well spotted Bill :-) Linn

Bill, the Dahlia is a bulb flower. Get some and when it is time to plant, do it. In Autumn they will start dying off, but you leave the bulbs underground and the next Spring you will see them come up again. That way you will have an endless supply of fresh and new images :-))

Thanks Linn,....Yes, I remember that there were many different types/colors of these when I did go to the nursery. Very pretty flowers.
I have not done much shooting of late and will have to start getting back out there. My good shots from my files are getting scare. Oh No!
Best regards.... Bill

Bill, just call them "Red flower from my garden #1" etc. :-))
This is a Dahlia. Glorious flower, very forgiving, and it will give you months of colour and enjoyment. Bees love them - so get that macro setting all ready! :-)
A friend of mine (just up the road) has a garden filled with Dahlias - every colour you can possibly think of and I had a lot of fun shooting her flowers.
Bye Linn

I don't think that we've met before on the pages of "Usefilm", Mr. Webster. So far you have uploaded 12 photos, all of them excellent. As I usually do in such circumstaces, I comment on this one as it is the last you uploaded, hence the first I see. Thank you for your comment on my "Light from within" Regards, Dr. Rafael (Rafi) Springmann

Has good color..Like your composition..you can always try some home made lights/reflectors or bounce a flash?
My 200mm lens is putting me a good 4-5ft away from the butterflys..with 2x even further, I am also cropping the image a bit...my lens is not a Macro lens. Regards, Bill

Gunther....Many thanks for your fine remarks. Yes,it is oversharpened whereby I did overdo it a bit. I was trying for the "painting effect" but perhaps it backfired a little here. I'll know to not over sharpen next time though I do like my shots on the sharp side. Its the degree of sharpness that is crucial of course. I could redo it for my own files. Take care...
