Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861)
Sonnets from the Portuguese
XLIII. How do I Love thee?
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints,--I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life!--and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.

I'm pretty sure this is a Prionus californicus, the "California Root Borer". The grubs live in dead wood, the adults don't feed.

Yup, mostly ants, but you learn a thing or two about all kinds of insects.

I'm the hand model here (Laura's Dad, too ;-)
That bettle is about two inches long, not counting the antennae, and he/she was UPSET, squeeking very loudly every few seconds, gnashing those big jaws, and clawing at me with the claws on the legs.
Catch and release, no harm done to either of us!
I used to collect insects, so I knew, as long as I kept clear of the jaws, it couldn't hurt me.

Possibly, Daughter Dearest - however, I choose the light colored strap to draw the eye, and the tight positioning for a military flavor.

"Dad's credit card will work - he'll never know :~>"
Unhuh, Dad's a dope.
Mom, OTOH, goes over the credit card statement, and grills Dad about charges *she* doesn't recognize.
We'll get that UV filter and the extra battery ordered ASAP, Laura.
Now, when are you going to put some of those new photos up?

Always a hoot when someone spells "intelligent" wrong while being snarky or sarcastic about the intelligence of others!
Laura - excellent photo - I remember thinking "why is she taking that?" when we were there, and now I see that you have an eye that I don't. Very nice.
