Terrific street shot and capture - a fine photograph with lots of character, expression and emotion. Just beautiful! Congrats!

Wow, lots of comments! Yes, this is a good shot for the different colors and shell textures. Good!

I like this shot, much for the light and the flecks of water on the cheek and arm, and the sense of beinf cold! Nice photo!

This image is wonderful on the eye after repeated viewings. Fine art, indeed.

Yes, Williamstown, Victoria. His father emigrated from England and had a shipbuilding business... Cousins are variously MacKenzies, Whites, Cuthbertsons, scattered around Victoria and NSW...

This is lovely - you have such variety of subjects and techniques!

My grandfather was born in Williamstown, btw... I've never been to Australia but I must someday -- plenty of cousins there!

The balance (and arrangement) of color and form here is terrific - it's a great photo! The piece of hatband extending far left echoes the curve of her red shirt, and eye color, hatband, and hair offset the powerful reds. There's something extending from the far side of her lips that could be a distraction (it was for me) -- but overall this is a beautifully composed portrait. Best regards - N

Another great portrait. You're very good with people! This is first rate, full of intrigue, and a fine model.

Sebastien - I like your work a lot... this one is very strong, a great face streaked with (I guess) tears, and blurry adults behind. I'd love to know the circumstances of the photo -- who the other people are, why you chose to blur them out... I think this is a great shot, well done.

Yes, this is lovely... very strong composition this way and added mystery because of the quality of the light. Thanks for your reply!

Hi Txules - this is a real eyecatcher, and I think a lot of it has to do with tonality and composition (which I think is fine). Have you tried cropping to straighten the horizon - or do you want the subtle effect that he is paddling uphill? Also (and this may be the intrinsic ghostliness of digital shots like these) the surfaces and tones feel metallic, which I feel inhibits the tranquility of the scene a bit. Still - just my opinion, and overall I think it's a beautiful piece.

Nice shot, very poignant and strong sense of isolation... I used to live in NM and wished I had taken some photos like this one. One thought is, if you'd shot from a lower angle I think there might be more power in the composition, with the portable toilets rising up a bit and the mesas in middle background profiled by the sky... a series of small monoliths if you will. Otherwise, a fine photo.

Hello Dawn - I'll have to get there someday (we don't live too far...) I enjoy good photography of the "Old South" and this is a fine picture with good detail and a slightly forlorn feeling. Nice work.

Anindya - thanks for your comment, and I was happy to find this photo, which I think is an excellent portrayal of a family in a bad mood (!) The man (father?) looks a bit frightening in his dark shadows. A fine street photo. - Ned

I love this - you have a great sense of tonality and character... a wistful mother with the boy holding his arm behond her head. A fine moment and good composition. - Ned

Great soft tonality and light... the wall looks like a resting lion (!). This is beautiful country and you caught it at a great moment. Great photo, award-worthy.

Thanks, Stephen -- they came for a photo session because of her pregnancy, but they soon just started to enjoy each other (when I said, "don't look at me, look at each other") and I KNEW one of my shots would capture something great between them. They're cool people...

I like the roughness of the photo, even though the sky is the main attraction and it would be great to have the clouds in sharp focus. We used to chase storms in Oklahoma and Kansas (very informally, and safely), and I love storm photos and journalism. - N

Interesting arrangement of objects, wonderful tones in the wood and a feeling of great visual appeal. With the blurry rim of something (a bowl?) in lower right, there's an imbalance that creates some tension. It's beautiful, and at the same time I'd like to straighten things up (!) The overall effect is appetizing and warm. Nice photograph.

Very cool! Naturally I twisted my head 90 degrees to see how it would look with conventional perspective -- it became "just a photograph" -- so the angle of the picture makes it what it is, and such a great idea. The raised hand in the middle gives it a sense of celebration... Nice shot!
