Nice image. You don't indicate the aperture, but I'd guess the lens was stopped down a bit. A wider aperture might have blurred the background a bit more.

I like this, but I think I see some PhotoShop artifacts (the leaves above the butterfly) and the butterfly appears to be over-sharpened. I assume this was a blend of a butterfly picture and a caterpillar picture.

Dan - Thanks for the laugh. If you check my portfolio, you'll see a "tasty morsel" emerging from its shell.

John - regarding the cicada shot. Tripod yes (I'd say about 85% of my shots are taken with a tripod). Lighting was high overcast - no flash or reflector.

Regards - Bob T.

So Jeroen, where did you get the idea to place the white tulip like this? ;-)

Interesting and colorful it is. Good eye to see the potential for this shot.

Very intriguing image. As Stephen said, vicious - and also viscous. You should consider entering this in the "Nature's Best" photo contest in the "environmental impact" or "man and the environment" category (I don't remember the exact name of it) but the category basically is for pictures that depict man's impact on the environment.

Excellent! Colors are vibrant, and the look seems pretty coy. Well done.

What an idiot - I meant larger aperture - smaller f/stop.

Very nice - but I think a smaller aperture would have kept the heron sharp and blurred the background a bit more. The tree trunks are a little bothersome.

Lucky you! Isn't it wonderful when the light is behind you and dark clouds are in front of you? You did a very good job with this - a very pleasant and relaxing image.

Interesting - and effective - angle. Exposure is perfect. I think you should not have clipped off the tip of the ear, but that's a minor point on an otherwise beautifully rendered portrait.

Pity that such a wonderful pose is so soft.

This is simply beautiful. Although the scan looks a bit grainy, I think it matches the mood of the image. Very nice.

Without the people, this would still be a captivating shot. With the people, you have a really nice image. Well done.

The thumbnail doesn't do this one justice. The only weak point for me is that the color of the background is so close to that of the cranes. But a nice idea well presented.

Chris - this is almost perfect. Two minor comments - I think I'd like to see the person a bit more to the left. Also, I think the sun is just a bit overexposed - there is glare "eroding" the edges of the silhouette. Those are just minor comments on a superb image, though.

Very moody. I almost feel lost, abandonned and hopeless just looking at it.

One minor point - Its too bad the tracks lead out of the frame to the left. I think the image would be just a bit stronger if the tracks lead into the center of the frame, or disappeared into the tree. But that would be a MINOR tweak to an excellent photo.

This is one of the best winter shots I've ever seen.

This is almost perfect. Lighting is great, and the idea is a good one. But - the creases in the backdrop shouldn't be there.

Good one - under tough conditions I bet. I think your title would be even more appropriate if the fellow in the background was looking at the pair.

The thumbnail doesn't do this one justice. The cones need a bit of snot to set them off, but this looks pretty good as it is.
