Thank you for your comment, Vickie. The spot and the stripes are from flags on Michigan Avenue bridge. They are very dominant and pretty much unavoidable (I guess I could wait until the wind blows towards the lake and they point in the other direction :-). I had thought about a Photoshop enhancement, but decided against it for now.

I'll see what I can do.

Just wanted to show you the incredible detail you are missing due to the 850x850 limitation.

Thank you for looking and commenting, Jacques. I really like your "Canyon land" photos. Makes me remember eight wonderful years we lived in Phoenix. Feels like we traveled every free minute and saw all those places more than once.

Thank you very much, Diego. Truly a magical place and I am sure I will go back and discover new photo-worthy views next time I'm in Berlin.

Thank you, Noemi. The Sony Center in Berlin is such a rich motive at all hours of the day. Next time, I might have to plan an entire day just at the center.

Thank you, Salvatore. I was scanning the stadium with the 400mm (200mmVR plus 2x teleconverter) and these stadium lights looked great.

Thank you, Larry. All sides of the “Cloud Gate” are perfect candidates for fish eye shots. Unfortunately there was a lot of scaffolding around that night due to some polishing work they were doing. I want to go back soon to take more photos.

Thank you for visiting and commenting, Salvatore.

And you are absolutely right. I would generally have used a tripod and lower ISO, but this was “a lucky find” and I did not have the tripod with me. Also, they were doing last minute polishing work and there was a lot of scaffolding around. They are done now and I hope to go back soon with my tripod.

Even the next best thing to a tripod did not exist … a lamp post. I sometimes do long exposures by “hugging a lamp post” and holding my breath. Take a look at the 1.3s shot at http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=715177

Thanks for the comment again,
Jürgen

Thank you for your comment, Bart.

They were working on the “Cloud Gate” and there was a lot of scaffolding at the area where the city reflections would be most effective. I’ll hope to go back soon and will take up your recommendation of shots just of the bubble.

Right on, John. In fact there is even more material in the original stitch (both on the left and on the right).

What about this? The crop is tighter and the color levels are more balanced.

Thank you for pointing me to PTGui, Roger. Take a look how greatly it improved my Grand Canyon stitch:

Before at http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1015854
After at http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1016119

I guess sharing tricks, tips, and tools could be the first order of business fir the PIG.

Thanks to PTGui, I will be able to make and post many panoramas that I had already written off due to the limitations in the (free) Canon software.

Thank you again for the pointer, Roger.

A great stitch, John. This looks absolutely perfect.

BTW. Thank you for your very constructive critique on my Grand Canyon stitch, John. It challenged me to try one more time... and I succeeded in fixing the horizon. Take a look at http://www.usefilm.com/image/1016119.html

Thanks for the comment and challenge again,

Thanks for looking and commenting, Jeff. It's all about learning and you are right, the sky could be enhanced.

I used the Canon stitching software that came with the camera in 2001 and I probably should go back to the original images and try with more modern tools again.

Looks like you enjoy panoramas and stitches, too. I really like your "Straits of Gibraltar" posting.

Still not better. Let's try it one last time ...

Roger,

I have to admit that I used the camera's "idiot mode" for this picture. Both Canon Elph pocket digital cameras I have (S100 from early 2001 and S400 from 2003) have a stitch support mode and they come with pretty good stitching software.

In the stitch support mode, the camera's LCD display helps you to find the best overlap. I believe (though I don't know for sure) that the camera locks in the white balance for the entire series, but that the aperture and exposure time are adjusted as necessary. The camera could do this easily as it keeps the previous picture to show you the overlap guides.

Anyway. Even with the help of that mode, stitches are not easy.

Looking forward to the panorama "special interest group" in Usefilm. Let me know how I can be of help.

Very well done indeed, Marcin.

I really like how the light is bright on the left and how it creates the shadow on the wall.

Thank you very much for sharing, Mark. Your approach makes a lot of sense (and the results obviously prove you right). It means, though, that I did everything wrong again on my flight coming back from Japan today :-(( But I am sure I will be traveling again no later than next week and I?ll give it a try.

Thanks again fro sharing.

Now that is breathtaking, Mark. Wonderful shot. I never seem to be that happy in and out of Chicago. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I always try to have an aisle seat.

So, how do you work with scratched airplane windows? Special post processing or something you do while taking the photo?

Congratulations for this outstanding photo.
