Hi Irenka
When selecting the options for the photo's information, it automatically states >5 minutes for a particularly long exposure. This shot was exposed for around 15 minutes and it is quite surprising how much the earth rotates over that amount of time. But there is no photoshop effects to lengthen the star trails. There was a bit of cloning required to remove some of the noise (dots) that became apparent after 15 minutes which I understand is pretty typical for digital cameras, particularly the 300D.
Cheers

Hey Peta
Thanks for your comments. In answer to your question, I am originally from Melbourne, but have moved around a bit and now am living in country Victoria....as I am sure you could tell from the shots around the Harcourt area.
Thanks for looking.
You have some great shots in your portfolio and
I look forward to visiting it....again and again and again.

Great perspective. For some reason I keep thinking the clouds are moving across the frame as if I was really there looking up. Top stuff.

Hey Marcus
Once again, I am flabbergasted at the amazing detail in your captures as well as snapping the birds at just the right moment. This applies to all of you shots. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers mate, Mark

Hey Jason, glad you made it over to WA, hope you had a great time.
This is a great shot and the composition is just right. Just need to tilt the horizon down on the right hand side as the jetty in the distant horizon is a bit crooked. Otherwise the detail in the sky and the 'feel' of the shot is beautiful.

Beautiful shot of the shoreline. It is really interesting to look at. Lots of textures, colour and movement. You mention central Qld, where is this?
Cheers, Mark

Hi Cheryl, thanks for your comment. I didn't use a special lens here or post production to create the circular star trails. The star trails are actually created by the long exposure, around about 15 minutes which exposes the movement of the sky around the south celestial pole (which I know to be about four lengths of the southern cross in the direction of the base..if that makes sense). The sky was particularly starry that night and I was glad to see they came through in the shot.
Cheers

Pat, I really like this shot. It is extremely emotive, giving the feeling of forgotton heritage with the slightly run down structure, the dormant trees and the overcast, cool sky . The way you have used the light in the foreground to draw the viewer into the picture through the track to the feature of the barn, while the edges are darkened is effective. Also the way the barn is slightly off centre also adds to the shot. Well done.

Hey Jason. This was taken from a vantage point near Fraser Ave which is the main entry into Kings park from the city. There are great vantage points all around and I reckon I could spend a whole night there just taking shots. This particular shot overlooks the Kwinana Fwy and Mitchell Fwy interchange looking east, but there are great views looking south east and south too. This shot was taken around 9:30pm.
If you want a great shot looking to Perth from South Perth, go to Sir James Mitchell Park which is off Mill Point Road, South Perth. All along this bank of the Swan River are great photo ops. There is also a small lake near Coode Street (near the jetty) which will give a good foreground with palm trees to frame the shot. Have a great trip...lucky bugger.

I love this shot. It feels very nostalgic. I am impressed that you have put this in black and white and am glad as I think it adds to the shot and gives it that very cold raw feeling. I can just imagine people walking over the bridge huddled up in theire trench coats and hats. I particularly like how you have composed this in a tall vertical frame using the space really well.

Hi Robin. Thanks for your kind words. I did use a shutter release cable (RS60-E3). The exposure was achieved with bulb setting and closed the aperture right down. It was a bit difficult to set the shot up as it was very dark so I used a torch while looking through the eyepiece to shine a bit of light on the subject to frame it correctly, then took the shot over around 15 minutes.

Great cool colours in this shot. I also like the branches which gives it a mysterious look. I'd like to see this black and white too.

This is really exposed well. Particularly in that the sun is not overexposed yet there is enough detail in the boat masts and foreground. Nicely balanced and very pleasing to observe.

Taras. May I just say, your star shots put mine to shame. Your milky way and celestial shots are amazing. It is kind of comforting to know that although across the other side of the planet, we still look at the same sky with a few different stars, and have that connection through this technology. Cheers.

Great shot Nitish. Perfect timing as I know there is not much time to capture such beautiful colours during this time. I really like the ruggedness of the coast abnd the associated blues of the ocean coupled with the pinks of the subset. It would be really great if you could remove the dots above the cliffs in the sky(which may be birds but from the distance you cant tell and therefore is a bit distracting). Congratulations of a great shot.

Great effect. It adds to the feeling of the shot, especially with the longer exposure making the figures slightly blurred. Very beautiful and interesting photo.

Terriffic capture. I think the greyscale exposure does this a lot of justice and adds to the feeling of the shot, very eerie, lonely, yet attractive to the eye. Well done.

Hi Ben. There are about 9 photos in this piece. I wanted to build up a picture using only shots I had taken in the past.
This is my first attempt at digital art so thanks for looking and for your kind comments.

Absolutely stunning. Nice strong foreground, leading the interest through the shot onto the glorious horizon and the crystal clear sky. The coulour int he sky is quite amazing from one where you think it should be blue, but here has a green tinge that keeps you interested. The whole shot looks cool (as in temperature), but you can almost feel the warmth of the sun on your face. great.

What a piece. This is really good. I agree with Femke that this is strange indeed, but it is something that you keeps looking at it and trying to figure out what the picture is about and what story is being told here...whether the viewer of the man in the street should be threatened by a stranger, or should it be symathetic to a homeless person, etc, etc. Very compelling. Congratulations.
