An amazing shot, Nick. I love it. I think you've done an excellent job with what appears to be selective desaturation. The flickr photo certainly is an improvement. There are a couple of places just below the iceberg, especially on the right, where the water still maintains a greenish color.
Well done!
Steve

Considering the conditions (choppy water, 25 knots in a Zodiac) you did well. Thanks for that link - it's always nice to see a larger/better version. It looks much better than the smaller post.

Hi Derek

Thanks for the comment. The shot does have some noise in it because it was shot from a Zodiac doing 25 knots into a headwind with a 400mm lens, so I had to use a high ISO to get anything sharp at all. I agree there looks like some JPEG compression artifacts on this. Take a look at http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=388966398&size=o for a better version

Considering the camera used, I find the background/sky a little noisy.

Interesting subject with interesting lines. The top edges of the berg/lines is/are too jaggie - maybe too much compression used?

I purchased NeatImage to help with digital noise - works great, and isn't very expensive.

Lovely shot. The contrast of the texture in the iceberg against the perfectly flat sky really works. Would be interesting to see this pulled back a little, but this is a nice view as well. My eye tends to creep back to the dark area on the lower left. Otherwise awesome! Did you get there from Ushuaia? Cheers, Debra

Seems to almost be smiling. Cute shot. It must be difficult on camera equipment, though, in Antartica.

Hi Anglea - this is the only seal that is a serious predator and it is only the fact that it is a young female, probably just fed, that she didn't try to bite my head off.

Thanks for the comment! I was very lucky to be there - I was a photographic resource on the excellent ship National Geographic Endeavour
