I don't know if I'm agree with the overexposed. I'm divided between a positive side and a negative one. On the other hand, I like her expression very much, as a sad princess... well done

gezicht is mooi expressief vervreemdend gemaakt

Yes, grandpas like me seem to be hanging in their "old good times". ;-) But the physiohnomies have similarities. The almost horizontal contour of the chin, the "angled" cheeks, the wide nose and separation space of the eyes.. Who knows what Eddie did when he was in the Netherlands! ,-)

About "angel and bad guy"... I don't see anything like that. I see a sympathetic young man on both images. Not an "angel" and not a "devil", only a young guy. A bad guy (actually a disgustingly bad guy) for me would look something like http://www.manager-magazin.de/img/0,1020,802759,00.jpg

Cheers,

Nick

Ofcourse I had to google van Halen, because i think we have a little generation problem; haha. In a sort of way i could imagen that you think they look alike. But the difference betweem the to pictures is, that the first one makes him look like an angel and the second more like a badboy. Whitch one do you like best?

Well, Fione, one could consider it as "chiché" but also as personal style. I would only say, just shoot your images the way you find interesting at any given time. The variations and alterations will come with time anyway.

I also find hard contrasts good in any given EV. They seem to add a more "silent" kind of dramatic appearance. The image you attached is much of the same look and feel as your post, except of course for the sepia-like tones. But otherwise it exhibits the same behavior for example of face definition etc.

BTW... dies the guy have a similarity with Eddie Van Halen in his younger years or is it only my impression??

Cheers!

Nick

thanks for the comment, i see now (because of your directions) that the sweater is cut off on a very critical point. It looks a bit careless. I was so concentrated on the eyes, that a forgot about the rest of the picture. My bad

I like contrastfull pictures (i'm not sure if this is a word :)) Maybe i should try a little less contrast next time. I don't want to fall in clichés.

I added another one of the serie, what do you think?

The composition worked very well as a portrait with some additional reference to the scene, Fione! It is well balanced and effective with perhaps some small problems in vertical balance. Perhaps a bit more of the top and less of the bottom could turn it even better, but I am not sure.

The light balance was terrific for generating this high-keyish look but with hard contours and har light. It made your friend a good compliment and also preserved his face's plasticity with rather subtle gradients in the highlights.

The focus and the details are also very well. Only some small pixelation artefacts on the upper edge of the eyes which bring a bit of unnatural "crystallinity" there, but the other details are crispy and natural.

Very well done!

Nick
