Im with ya there Clay. My goal that day was to capture as much detail as possible while still capturing them in the natural setting. Lots of waiting and wandering around for the right light, position, background, etc while not disturbing the animals. Dang Bulls are very active herding the cows, so just a shutter click and its something totally different. I wasn't too thrilled with the full image - too much bland color - so i decided this crop kept all the elements together well enough.

Thanks for the kind words Darryl ! Yes, its the rut out here, usually Mid Sept thru Mid October. Im no stranger to wild animals in mountainous terrain, and is exactly why i use the 70-200 2.8, on the DX body it gives me 300mm on the top end. Plenty of room to keep safe :) The above image is about a 75% center crop, the critter was approx 40 - 50 yds away. More concerned with his ladies than me.

You know, im not usually a big fan of manipulated images, but THIS WORKS !! The vibrant yellows against a gray background really pops ! Makes me think early morning cypress swamp, with moss hanging off the limbs, faint calls of birds.... Beautifully done Barbara

Thanks Paul ! Moraine Park is a popular area for elk herds in the fall, during the rut. This guy was a little ways off the meadow, i was darn lucky to come across him while hiking back to the valley.

Much appreciated Clay ! The Elk and I only had about 15 seconds together before he wandered off, an amazing moment in time.

Clay - Thank You ! His installations are usually very large, and as a whole may not photograph well. Looking at them in pieces really brings out a lot more to me than as a whole.
