I used to live a few blocks from the Rose Parade and I would hate it because of all the traffic problems and mess left behind, some on our property. But now that I have photography I go to as many parades as I can and the Doo Dah is right at the top for fun for the crowd. I do believe there is a sister Doo Dah Parade in the mid west someplace.

None so far, I think it was very funny. But I could see where some might object. There were a few OMG's from the crowd. They did this very straight faced with the band leader very serious and they were playing a very popular rock song as they marched and danced around him.

The Doo Dah Parade is held in Old Town Pasadena with no set date and is essentially the opposite of the Rose Parade and even runs at right angle to the Rose Parade. The crowd dresses almost as wild as the participants.

My first time there and I will be sure to arrend next year. It was a blast.

This was last weekend at the Doo Dah parade. Not directly accociated with Chinese New Year.

I thought more, a black man moving up with women still struggling behind but next in line?

Miramar is in San Diego, California. I voted for Obama and hope he cam correct the mess 43 did to US.

Yes, your framing does work a little better. Panorama looks good but I wanted to keep the fwy signs in on this one because it shows that it was taken from a moving car (just barely). I should have cropped out the tree, though.

These were for decoration on a float in the Rose Parade.

Pretty nice with a little detail of the dark side. I've had better luck with new moon vs a full moon. I got a faily decent full moom shot thru a window in a will lit room. It fools the sensor so it doesn't over expose and you can shoot at a higher shutter speed. The moon moves pretty fast so long time exposures are blurry. Using a very powerful lens is the other alternative.

Such an obvious target but so very difficult to shoot in a single frame. I have read that doing a composit works better.

Thanks, I normally avoid this kind of treatment as most here disdain them but for a holiday image I thought quite appropriate.

Thanks, I see you have a immage from The Grove also. I also have a image of Carneys somewhere. I like their tuna melt! LA/Hollywood is a great place for street shots.

Thank you very much. I was surprised converting from a night shot it did come out pretty nice with a hand sketch look. I wanted to invoke a feeling of old time Christmas.

No, it is the Lens Distortion/geometry control in Picture Window Pro. But it probably does the same thing.

There was a lot of air distortion and I tried the unsharp mask which sometimes leave those outlines. It was unfortunate that I was walking to the show when these shots with the vapor condensation were occuring and didn't have time to set up properly. Later I got better shots of the Blue Angels but they didn't have these wonderful vapor formations.

Thanks for understanding. It is a difficult subject that is moving at a high rate of speed at a great distance from me, plus the fact that the cloud cover kept changing constantly. This was a heavy crop, maybe 25% of the original frame. The remarkable vapor trails were only visible for a short time. Could I have gotten better? Perhaps, but I think these were still good enough to post.

I do have one with her feet in, but the ghoul was not. Since this was a Halloween shot I left it as it was.

BTW, there is no Hollywood Halloween parade. There is a Christmas Parade right after Thanksgiving.
There is a Halloween street party in West Hollywood though.

All the shots were hand held but they did allow flash, which didn't help much. The DOF got a litte fuzzy on the left because of the length of this amazing aircraft.

I'm not very much into avaition history so I cannot say what model it is. But I do like taking photos of them. This was a tail gunner position. That must have been one scarry spot to sit.

I thought I got one better but this was the best of the bunch it took. A bit more than a little underexposed but how often do you get a chance at shooting this one?

That display case in the middle has some of the cameras and lenses. I was surprised that one of the cameras were Sony. That is one big plane, and all engine.

Mary, your comments are the main reason I still post here. I knew that you would be back before too long. I can only hope the reasons are good ones that you were not able to be here for awhile. I post many different types from street to landscape and you always manage to pick my personal favorites to comment on. I treasure all your comments because you take the time to view them large and you give a honest response the image as a whole. I also appreciate what you don't say as well. Photography has been winding road for me and you have made the journey much more pleasant.

It is such a quandary when you go to a aviary. Such beautiful creatures but with fences and cages all around to block your shots. I instead tried to embrace the fences and make them part of the compositions.

This crop took a lot of thought. After I tried so many conventional compositional rules, the only one that worked best was the one that broke them all. Square frame, centered focus was the only way to give the best impact. I am so glad you liked the end result.

There was no joining in this shot, but simply a cropping to a panoramic ratio. Strawberry Lake is where my Dad loves to go once a year to fish for cutthroat trout. It's a nice place to spend a week with my folks. Utah is a land of extremes and makes for some dramatic landscape photography.
