Superb. The composition, the lighting, the whole thing.

Thanks again everyone. I feel grateful for the opportunity to have seen it on a day where I had both my camera and my wits about me!

The humans, the interesting location and especially the light and reflection make a nice moody photo.

A lot of interesting shapes in this picture, and the couple as the focal point brings so much to the composition. Well done!

Thanks everyone - I think I'm happier with this shot the more I look at it. Definitely a right place, right time moment.

Thank you all for you kind words

Thank you very much, Jose. It was the tone and texture that caught my eye - when I approached the place where I spotted this, I had intended to photograph something else. In the end, this was much more interesting!

Hi Rick, Yeah, I can see how the stonework appealed to you, I really like this shot, the melting snow, and wet stones in the hall way allowing for the bright reflection and the hard contrast is very appealing. Excellent reaction time, and the two people in this photo are smashing, they act as a perfect eye catcher, and add to the atmosphere of the photo; rather timeless. Classic shot, and very well captured.

Cheers,

Hugo

The couple at the background, that is what 'makes' the image. I like the lighting on the pillars at the right hand side and the wall behind the couple. If you had more time, you may have moved one step to the right in order to get more symetry into the image.

Thanks for the critique Hugo. I agree about the sky - I had a somewhat tentative attempt to crop it originally, but I quite liked the curve of the headstone and was unsure how to carry on. I agree completely that it's the weakest bit of the picture though.

Thanks again! Your work is always inspirational, and I appreciate the comment

Hi Rick, If you'd kept the sky out of the photo, this would be awesome. Quite an easy to understand message, but a very powerful one. Very good shot,

Cheers,

Hugo

Mariusz - I had originally intended this shot to be black and white, but it somehow looked very flat and took a lot of the interest out of the tones of the metal (particularly the pedal), as well as removing the green of the door in the top-right which I felt helped tie the foreground and background together.

I ended up using a series of filter layers in Photoshop to get something that approached black and white with the limited colour saturation, but which rendered the noise a little better and retained the tones I wanted in the metalwork.

Thanks for your comment though, and glad you liked it

I find this photograph very original, and enjoyable. It reminds me of classic masters of photography, like for example Catala Roca in Spain. Keep up

Thanks Marcus - if only there was a handily posed bird somewhere on the shot... oh wait, that's your area of expertise

Thanks for that George - glad you like it

I did tentatively try a crop, but ended up leaving as is because I couldn't decide on it. Every time I look at the photo since, I think that a crop would really have helped things as you say.

Many thanks for the encouragement

Greetings Rick,

I find this shot, awesome, because of the framing, and especially its overall cold color tones, perfectly compensated by the woman's jacket. The only thing, that I would still modify, would be e little more crop from below, keeping only the wet sand part.

Regards, George

Thanks for the comment and the encouragement! I'm very pleased with this one, especially the composition, considering the awkward shooting angle (pressed against a wall and half-lying in the snow). Nice to see it was worth it!

It's actually the top portion of a 12 foot fence around a very ordinary building, but I agree, it really could be anything!

Thanks for your encouragement!
