Here's the article I wrote to describe the steps I took to play with this photo:

Very cool Chels. Love the use of reflection... My only wish would be for the lock to be out of there... :-)

Very cool. The lack of sense of scale in this is excellent. It would probably look good in black and white as well, but the sand color is very nice.

Chels, this is cool! Did you scan or did you get a photo cd? The sky is REALLY grainy... not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it's noticeable... I LOVE the comp though. Makes me want to get in the car and go driving. :-) Keep em coming. :-)

Are you trying to get a 16x20 from the scan? If so, scan at as HIGH a DPI as you can handle and not crash your machine. Alternatively, if you can swing it, get it drum scanned at a pro shop.

This is a cool shot Cris. Terry makes some excellent points! The main thing to remember with night shots is that tripods are your friend. This looks pretty sharp, so it may be on tripod, but if not, use one. :-) Unless you are purposely going for streaks and whatnot, then tripod is NOT your friend.

Large prints can be had from any number of online vendors. I tend to use photoaccess.com and have been very happy with my results.

I hope you don't mind, I took the liberty to play with the color and contrast in your photo a little. The first thing to remember is that the LCD lies! ALWAYS! :-)

Seriously though, I have found that most digi's tend to mute color a little so that you can control it later. I took just a minute or 2 in photoshop to make this change. as you fire off more and more shots you'll see that it's better to control your shots and make them your own. :-) Keep shooting and uploading!

Sean, I can't tell you what you should or should not have done in this shot. What I will say instead is what I would have tried.

I think you had the right idea here and it looks pretty good. I would have tried to have the shutter open a lot longer so the light streaks are unrecognizeable and the wing is the only thing in the shot that makes sense. REALLY hard to get it right without a tripod, but I think if you shove the lens right up against the window you can hold it fairly steady. Next flight, try again!

Whoa!!! Ok, first of all I want this car! :-)

I like the shot very much. The background is a little boring but it's ok because that's not where you should be looking... The car looks great and the fill flash was an excellent idea. Grea job!

I would LOVE to see this shot without the hello kitty shower curtain and other distractions in the background! I like it... want a neutral background man.
