Linn, Nice to hear from you again. Yes, I've noticed some Dahlias were top-heavy when I went to the local nursery. But on the whole they were fairly early/mid term on most of the ones I saw. I have alot of Dahlia pics to process and will look for what you mentioned of re: blur effects, etc.
Best to you..

Hey Bill :-) You're having fun with "our" Dahlias, huh :-)))

You know what I was thinking ... try shooting this particular sideways, but focus on the centre, and have those wavy petals out of focus. I think it might look great.

One problem you might find with Dahlias is that as the flower opens, the head starts hanging. So you are going to have to go down on the knees, and shoot upwards.

Haha this is funny! Very strange, but interesting! Seems to lack a lot of colours... or somehow like if many colours have melted together or something. Did you make it like that on purpose? Or have you saved the photo in gif-format? (Because gif can only handle 256 colours).

Hello Bill! It's a lovely photo you've taken, a very warming and nice composition! Background colour is unusual which makes it extra interesting! Very good sharpness and details!

Bill, thanks for the info. Whenever I visit nurseries, I hope to find good lighting where they keep the indoor plants, but have never had great success. Most of those images I dump as soon as I download them. Of course it is absolutely possible to get good indoor shots (at nurseries) if one goes manual - which I don't/can't.

But hey, my friend, isn't it just so much fun going around shooting all those wonderful flowers? We are now deep into Autumn (Fall) and there is almost always a slight breeze - it adds to the difficulty level of the shots but it still remains fun fun fun :-)

Linn, Actually I had no choice with the background as this was at the gardening center, over at the wall end of the room. This was taken against a red draping. Thought it looked nice at the time, but had a heck of a job getting the post editing to do it some justice.
The lighting was odd.
Best....

Gosh, what a beautiful specimen! Great composition Bill.

Personally, I would have chosen a background other than red, maybe a dark green to pick up on the bud and the inner of the flowers. Is this your orchid? and can you fool around with different backgrounds?

Great to see you have been busy :-)

Regards
Linn

Linn, Nice to hear from you! I must agree now re: the green spot. I'll just have to learn from all of you folks. I'm sort of a beginner so am still picking up on things as I go here. I love this sight! Best...

Great stuff Bill! I agree with Elisa on getting rid of the green spot - it draws the eye to it and you don't want that.

Fabulous colours! Wonderful macro! Lovely tight crop!

I like like like :-) and hope to see more soon.
Well done.

Elisa, Thank you for your nice comments. Funny you should mention the upper right green area. I was thinking of taking it out,but decided on leaving it in. I liked it either way,so left it in.
