About Taken with existing light only, and using 'P' mode. The background came out dark, but I like the effect, because it makes Jenny stand out more.

I love Pink dresses. Most of all I loíke the look at Jenny?s face. This pretty small Model.

To Anne: That comment of mine was a response to Mark's about such a bright pink sweater. Most award-winning photos have some continuity in colors. I realize now that it came off differently than I meant it. My comment was supposed to mean that it doesn't matter if the colors "go" together or if it's technically imperfect, it's still a winner for almost anyone who has children of their own.

Also, I meant to say I like how you caught the shininess of her hair....that's all...over and out...

I don't see the background blotchiness myself....oh wait, yeah I see it...that's kind of cool! I like the pink top stark on black...it shoots me right to her face and that curious expression...it also brings out the pink in her cheeks and gives it a different feel than some of your other Jenny shots. As far as Adam's "won't win any awards" comment, I don't see how one person in the vast world of photographers could make such a determination. I'll be on the lookout for more, Sarah!

The blotchiness of the background looks more like a scanning issue than anything else. It also appears that the contrast was boosted a little too much.

But none of that matters because you have a beautiful portrait here -- one that you'll treasure for a lifetime. My daughter, too, used to wear bright pink clothes (now they're just pink) and, while it won't win any awards, it perfectly captures her personality and style, which is the best reward you can get.

Thanks Mark and Jeff to your nice comments.

I think the background 'pattern' is just shadows from the living room where this was shot.
Mark :- How could you say such a thing about her top - it's her favorite Barbie pink top!!! (only kidding!!)

This works for me Sarah. I like the very dark background. I think the scan may have made it a random pattern so maybe it could be darker. Available shots shots are great for many subjects, kids especially. I feel that it does not destroy the quality of the light or the soft skin tones in the way that flash can. Nice work!
Cheers!

The dark background works very well and I like the lighting. Good portrait! I'm not quite sure about the bright pink top, though.
