Hi Becky (you are showing up as N/A)... I preferred the b/w for the same reason as you did - the retro feel - a little bit like a move promo from the 40s or the 50s (minus the powder :-) Thanks for your detailed critique!

Hmmm . . . I like the colour portrait because of it's wonderfully rendered powder blue sky, which is counterpointed by the green trees and red roof (though the bit of blue in front of the house is a bit distracting whereas in the b&w, it's hardly noticeable).
I have to say, in my I-know-next-to-nothing-about-portraits opinion that I prefer the black and white. I can't say it's due to anything technical, just that there's an interesting retro feel to it. There's something about the subject's expression and pose that leads me to think this was captured sometime in the 1950s. I like it!
There are bits of the forehead that are a little hot, but I think it's difficult to avoid when the sun is bright, especially with male subjects. Sunlight looks softer on women, mostly due to make-up (i.e. powder/foundation). Of course, you could always carry around some translucent powder for future photo shoots, but actually getting a guy to wear it could be a different story! ;)

My wife thinks I'm crazy for posting the b/w version instead of the original one on color. What do you think?

Thank you Hugo - I've been traveling, but also spent more time on another photosite...

Very sincere portrait, Stefan! It's been a while since your last upload, I believe. But you're back with a vengeance. Very strong shot. A bit annoyed, a bit inquisitive, but a personality for sure. Excellently exposed, and very well composed. Intriguing shot, very impressive.
Cheers,
Hugo
