I came upon this log in my favorite woods last winter and I was intrigued by the rough, gnarled texture of the wood contrasting with the soft blanket of snow laying on it.
Mark: I really appreciate your comments and suggestions. I agree with you that it could be sharper. The softness is probably due to a combination of factors including the 400 speed film, a rather inexpensive lens, and the fact that I have to scan prints on a flatbed scanner until I can purchase a film scanner. Another factor may be the enlargement, as this is actually just a cropped detail of a much larger photo. And this winter I will try some different compositions. Best wishes, Kurt
You have a good eye for pictures, Kurt. I like the composition of this one. It is, however, a little soft (maybe it is just the lighting or the scan). The contrast of texture of the wood and that of the snow could be better appreciated if the image is sharp. It would also look better I think if you showed more of the snow and have a diagonal composition. Mark
Ahhh, you too, can look at a subject and see something that is not obvious to the average eye. The tough hardened wood lying on a blanket of snow while the white crystals caress the unforgiving hardness.
