Well Roger.. there is not a camera in the world than can take the place of a photographer.. so yes, cheap cameras can take good photos if there is a good photographer taking them :)

No, no, Bertram, my train comes IN on this platform (it's a change of line, and trains from different lines come in on both sides of this particular platform). But I may have "missed the boat" even if I didn't miss the train.

Thanks, Paul. It was the good overall effect despite the individual glaring faults that intrigued me in this shot. I'll try B&W, but I think that red light will be hard to give up... I set out to show that a so-so camera CAN take good shots, and I guess this proves it. A lucky chance!

I suffer occasional attacks of dizziness, Hugo, so I generally avoid walking the edges of the platform... no temptations that way. Yet.

Together with your text this pic is a story. If Japan has not a different railway system your camera does not look in the direction of arrival but in the direction where the last train vanished in the dark ? Hope this is not the deeper meaning behind that all. Keep on shooting !

Hi Roger, this is a very good shot, regardless of the camera. I like the perspective, and the red light in the is a very effective addition. The only pitty is that there's no oncomming train to add to the atmosphere...:) Very good low-end camera shot, the shot itself is excellent.
If this captures your mood, it freaks me out though. Stay where you are, and do not, I repeat, DO NOT move left! You ok, then?
Cheers,
Hugo

Maybe your phone represents the new journalism. It can certainly accompany you everywhere and bring back an image of almost any situation. This, for me, captures the late night isolation of a city.

I can't argue with your comments about the "faults", Roger, but, even so, you've done a great job of capturing something of the late night, lonely atmosphere of your journey home. I trust that all your efforts and long hours will eventually be well rewarded. I wish you success and my prayers are with you. Best regards, Chris
