Yeah - the IS model is very pricey.
over here the non-IS one's about £900-£1000 and the ID one's around £1400.
convert that to dollars and you can see the huge difference - about $1.75 to the pound at the mo.
Time to pack my bags for a holiday over there ! :-)

But notice, I didin't get the is model !! Mine was around $1200.00 US. the is model is close to $2,000.00 !!!! The 70-200 is sharp though !! and works well with the 1.4 teleconvertor.. Thanks for the comment

great floral Jim - you've got that lens I'm after!!! To expensive in the UK though :-(
the F2.8 really does have a huge effect on the backgrounds - idea for this kind of shot.

It's lovely Jim, I think the detail is great, the little hairs on the stem, and the little curls on the petals really add to a great composition
