Doyle -- These are excellent suggestions and I appreciate the constructive feedback.
I will go back and "play" with this a bit and explore some of your ideas. As you say, right now it is pretty much a straightforward filter application but I like the idea of trying to refine it via layering.
As for your last thought: I too have suffered from the double slap syndrome. I have learned to take these pictures quickly with little fuss and then be prepared to run for my life.

Well Jan, I'm not normally a big fan of the 'special effects' filters . . . dry brush and watercolor, though, have found a way into my mind here and there (as well as a couple of others) . . .
This is one of those cases, I think. The evocation of a carefree Summer feeling is inescapable here . . . More detail would tend to distract from that feeling and draw attention to the face being protected from view when it wasn't necessarily the face but the feeling you wanted to convey.
Since it's CC, I want to point out that I might have considered doing a little more with the image . . . Perhaps an orignal version, layered on top, using a High Pass at the lowest discernable level (to get finest detail), set to overlay. Then, slide down the opacity to a pleasing level . . . and I can only guess at about 20% but you have to visually see it - In effect, this would put a very light, very sharp overlay on this to make an image, which combined with the dry brush would give you a different kind of picture . . . one less easily duplicated effect too . . . just something to play around with.
That leaves this last thought. How'd you do it? See, I shoot some pretty girl and get slapped twice . . . once by the girl and once by the wife! LoL! :P
