Great perspective - a different kinda shot for sure, but as said I'd soften the light, go ahead and stop down all the way, use multiple flash pops if you have to. Point of focus on the head seems prudent here, different background (black is always a safe bet) could add some snaz, looking forward to seeing this evolve
Nice horse. I would like to see more of the left side of the horse though. Especially on the face. Maybe a reflector held on that side would have improved this.
Also, the distinct line that I see of the division of the table and the wall is taking away from the picture I think.
