Martin,

Thanks for your comment. I don't mind, and I do like this version of my pic. I find inspiration and flatery in seeing what others have done with my photographs.

The original post was not cropped, I posted it as it came out of the camera. Most of my pictures I post without a post-production crop.

I wouldn't change a thing... Wonderful capture indeed my friend...

Awesome DOF, colours and cropping my friend,

Hi Ashley...I took a long 'rest' from UF and tried to come back first day in 2006. My stupid computer lets me comment but denies me posting amongst many other denials..Repairs commence tomorrow.

This is a beautiful shot and you have captured some truly excellent snow textures which, along with leaf details and colour a perfect dof.. Well done to you..Hope to 'see' you again soon.. Best wishes...Ray

I'm in agreement with Mike. Your crop is a little too much.

Its all a personal thing at the end of the day, BUT I think that crop looks great.....it keeps the perspective and field of depth

Mike,

Thank you for your comment, I did go a little overboard with the crop. I do not normally do anything to my photographs (crop, sharpen, etc.) and when I try I tend to go to extremes. Is this more of the idea?

patience again

Mike Cook   {K:4389} 12/30/2005
I agree with Jim Goldstein, I think it is a great shot, and that if you divided the horizontal into 5th's and took off just the top 5th to get rid of the bulk of the background you really would be onto a winner. In my view you have probably over cropped it in your example and it has lost some of the perspective a great shot like this deserves....

Jim,

Thank you for your detailed comment. I find that this type of comment very helpful. I took your suggestion and played with the crop (I might have taken it to the extreme), and I tried it in bw. I am not very skilled in PS, but there is only one way to learn. Let me know what you think.

The captured texture of the snow is great as is the lighting. I'm not sure if including that much of the background (above the horizon of snow) really adds to the image though. Perhaps next time around experimenting with your framing or in post production cropping the image down would allow you to present a subject like this with a little greater impact. Given the emphasis on the texture of the snow I bet this would translate well to a B&W image.
