Nothing technical from me Roger. I love shots of walkways and this one is no exception. It comes accross well in mono tones and there is good detail throughout.
Way back in my distant (and healthy) past I had a Voigtlander as well, along with (at varying times) a Leica 111a and 111g, two Rolleiflexes,a Reid,a Mamiya 345 and others now forgotten. Unlike you, I have gone digital (and lazy) without really understanding digital and my use of Photoshop would have their staff pulling their hair out. I do enjoy reading your technical exchanges with GG and others and remember those days well. Of course, unless you can afford the top digital equipment, there is no substitute for roll film.....keep at it Roger. Best wishes to you...Ray

Thanks, GG. Lots to think about in your comment... I am really looking forward to using my Arax. I have a packet of five 120 rolls of my favourite film and a back-pack camera case and the weather forecast says "Fine and sunny" for tomorrow!
It was the lack of fine tonal gradations in 35mm B&W when I traded in my (alas) unreliable Mamiya 645 that disappointed me so much... I lost interest in photography for years.

Thank you, Hugo. In line with your observation I reduced the brightness and contrast a tad and I agree, it makes a noticeable improvement. Hmmm. Wonder why I couldn't see that for myself? I agree it is difficult to assess lenses at screen resolutions but this lens IS unusually good... only my Heliar 50/3.5 consistently outperforms it.

Thanks Roger, I thought the Arax was back ;) As told by Hugo it's very hard to identify an image made with 35, 6x6 or digital camera on internet also if I feel the difference (just personal feeling, nothing scientific). Usually the ones made in digital are "too much" perfects :) I know people on UF that moves back from digital to analog because tired of the "predeterminist" way to take photos in digital. I add that if we learn from our mistakes we need to do something wrong sometimes if we want to continue to grow up. Analogical photos is a good teacher :) This is a really nice picture and you composed it with a lot of artistical skills. I appreciate also the quality of your power lens (really sharp!). Surely this camera is lighter than your Arax but I think that the possibility to compose the image in a larger frame and from the top gives you a new perception of the scene. I feel a much more microcontrast in the medium format that propbably can't be translated on the screen but this do the difference in the final print. In my experience I started several years ago with a 35mm but I was not able to achieve the wide tonal range I was used to see in the photo books. ....than I tried a yashica Mat 6x6.... a new world in front of me! More details, greys,... What can I tell more... it's a personal feeling that each one of us has to find. Doesn't mater the camera but the feeling between photographer and his camera. We could discuss that each scene has his perfect combination of the two but I took too many space on your comments area :)
Thanks again, see you soon. Bye (7 for the nice picture and 7+++ for the title ;) ) Giuliano

Hi Roger, I always find it difficult to assess the quality of a lens from an image on the interent, and with all digital manipulations techniques, it's even more difficult to really tell the differences, so I won't get into that (but I do take your word for it...;) As to the image itself, i find the contrasts a bit hard, and I would've peronally eased down on the brightness, but that's based on a post processing approach, as well as a subjective observation. I do like the image, though, it posesses a lush and pleasant feel. Well organised, too. Good work!
Cheers,
Hugo

Beautifully composed shot, Roger! The path is perfectly place to lead the eye through the trees. Like Susie (my sister) I don't have a clue what all the technical stuff means, but you certainly do a great job with it! Well done! Kathy

This is pretty Roger. I know nothing about different cameras and lenses, so just reading your about is impressive! It will be interesting to see your comparison shot. Susie
