Thanks for asking, Ron. I have to admit, I hacked this one a bit. I was there to watch my brother-in-law play and just wound up grabbing the camera and snapping a few.
I did not actually use my 80-200mm lens, as the picture states. I used my 50mm f/1.8. @ 1000 ISO. No flash, of course, and half of the lights in the gym are off. It was the only lens I have that's fast enough.
The original was cropped to about 50% of its original area, as I was a bit further from the basket than normal. (didn't feel like dodging sweaty teenagers this day)
I also used noise reduction filter in PS since the high ISO made a LOT of noise in the darker spaces. I'm guessing that the cumulative effect of using manual focus, cropping and enlarging, and the noise reduction filter is responsible for the softness. Thanks for your comments!
