Hi Andre,

and thank you very much for the explanations. With "purism" I mean simply to just post what was seen and shooted. But now that you say it, I think that you are right. What my eyes see and what I shoot is not necessarily what gets pronted at the end, since of course any human made apparatus has its shortcomings. It would be nice though to have the "perfect processing machine", that just captures, processes and prints only what the eyes of the photographer have seen.

I am already amazed about the possibilities of PS!

Cheers,
Nick

Thank you sooooo much for the comment and the link, Rina! It's really exciting and it helps *a lot*! And all those "PS-secrets" get so easily understandable!

Thank you very much again!

Cheers
Nick!

Hi Nick,
I know a lot of people might not agree with me, but I wouldn't worry about sticking to what you call purism. By this I assume you mean straight from the camera. Don't forget, what you see on a print depends on so many different settings in the developing stage. Most images are manipulated one way or another. That goes for colour or B&W. My advice to you is, if you have Photoshop or some other digital imaging program, just spend a lot of time working with a few images. You will be amazed at what you can achieve. Don't think of it as cheating. You just have to resist the temptation of going too far overboard with the manipulations.

Hi Nick,

Enhancing only certain areas in your images, is not difficult but does take a few steps to achieve, using layers and masking. Michael Kanemoto has put up a thread in the forum that could be of interest to you: http://www.usefilm.com/Photo_Forum/1/1012308/

Rather than giving you a step by step here, have a read through that thread. If there's anything you don't understand or need more help with, I'm sure Michael would be more than happy to advise you.

Having said all that though, if you don't feel comfortable making enhancements and the image is as you intended, then leave it. It really is fine the way it is anyway.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers
Rina.

Hi Denis!

It has been a print my friend. I still work with PS trying to get a better conttrast in the background, but I relly don't get it. Hope to find out how to do it, though I'll not post any "enhanced" pictures, since my purism feels... a bit uncomfortable with this. But on the other hand, it would be great to know how to achive such things with PS.

Thanks for the nice comment again and best regards.

Many many thanks for the comment and the idea, Rina! I think too, that the background could be enhanced with a bit of contrast boosting, but the colors.., well, I like them this way, moody and rather melancholic.

How could I do that contrast boosting in PS? I mean only the background, but not the rest of the photo? (Sorry, still a newbie :-D)

Best regards and thanks again,
Nick

Hi Nick
I see what Rina is saying about the flatness in the top half of the image. I'll bet it was because of mist or light fog. Was this a scanned print or slide? I have scanned a few slides and some faded colour prints that gave me this kind of effect.

Beautiful work with the foreground colour and clarity Nick. The background feels a little flat. Maybe needs a little boost in contrast and colour saturation there?? Very good composition :)

Cheers
Rina.
