The only suggestion I can come up with is to bracket your shot. Take an exposure at 1 stop less (underexpose) for sure to see if you still get the shadows and the whites are acceptable.

Beautiful shot Jessie. Great shape, texture and shadows. I think the sunlight plays nicely here, I wouldn't try too hard to fine tune nature's beauty. The brilliant white provides good contrast, much better (I think) than the natural creamy white one normally gets as the light becomes less intense (lower rightside). -john

I can smell them from here Jessie. Try and shoot when it is overcast and you can avoid those whites being burned out. Regards Ron.
