The dark in this photo is the subject (positive space), the light is the background (negative space). If you can imagine the dark as pure black and the light as pure white you get forms and spaces that balance, or are pleasing to the eye in their forms; or, something like that anyway. :))
Yes, I was over looking at the 'project' a couple of weeks ago. I should go back and have another look... hmmm now where did I put that link? Must be in my other jacket pocket.
I am spreading myself a bit thin again, so cannot participate. If I keep doing this to myself, I will become so thin I will be invisible. That'll be fun... just like now... all you see are the words I type. LOL.
While back here for a moment I discovered the critiques corner and could not resist getting back into the fray, if only for a few minutes. This is a fine, friendly, foto site to play on. I am sure Big Al does not put you in a corral and likely appreciates any feedback you have about other on-line photo sites that have features that are fun and helpfull in developing our talents and technical knowledge. (my sentence structure is rambling, please forgive the sloppiness).
My indoor and outdoor gardens, and my garden on line all need attention. well, just as soon as I find that link and have a look. :)

Hello Maggie M :) I'm not here much either (whisper...don't tell Al!). Thank you for the lovely long comment. Glad you like this Maggie, however, I'm afraid you totally lost me on your 'studys of dark and light' though I take it you approve :) I've been busy doing projects I told you about awhile back, a lot of fun but difficult. Shall pop over to visit with you soon.

Hi there!
I haven't been back here in quite some time. Its great to see you shooting some excellent street stuff.
I don't know Scanno, but that does not matter to my appreciation of this photo. It has some wonderfull diagonals jig jagging into the background. The colors all seem to harmonize. They seem to camouflage her in her envirnoment, and so I do not worry about what she might encounter around that next corner. She is at home and safe.
In studying the darker subject areas against the lighter background areas I find her and the two dark verticals further frame her within an inner frame and so the subject space balances with the lighter negative space.
You are up to your usual standard! Good Stuff!!
Cheers Maggie

Typical old Italian woman ;) Nice composition and very good place for photos, usually I see them in BW, but I must agree with you about this colors version, she seems the character of a fairy-tale. Thanks for your kind comment, Max
