Thanks Jon, I love portraits... but so far managed to take only one 'OK' portrait! (above one!!) Thanks for ur advice I will definatly think over it while shooting next portrait. You will be surprised to see the (original) color version of this I am attaching here. The 'yellow' colored powder is a sacred one, applied at temple of one of the Gods (named 'Khandoba') here in India.

Thanks Gary for your encouraging words. I am always fond of portraits but hardly able to have any good ones.

A good expression and nice pose. A couple of thoughts for you:
Shoot her from a bit lower down.
Use a darker background. The viewer's eye will tend to be drawn to the brightest highlights in an image, which in this case is not where you want them to be.
Less head space at the top - I think she would dominate the frame better if she occupied more of it.
Try "warming" the image up a bit by playing with the colour balance. Not much, just enough so that it doesn't have that sterile grey-on-grey look of a straight 256 colour greyscale.
LIght this a bit differently so that shadwow dowesn't fall across her neck like that.
Just my .02!
Cheers,
Jon
