Cliff - These gals and guys are constantly staring in our windows. They love out garden, the woods around the house and all the wild action going on inside. Go figure.
Thanks for the comments!

i cant believe this! you dont have to get out of the house to get great wildlife photos! i think the window ornements or coloured glass add something to the image, and youve got her very focused to well captured!:)

You are very welcome Jan, and it's something I intend to do is to go back to pre Photoshop images and start again. :)

Meg - Thanks for the excellent critique. I was not using PS back then and have since switched to Photoshop CS2 and also use Noiseware. However I have never gone back to revisit the image. That possibly will be a weekend project to go back to some of the earlier posted photos to consider some revamping.

I like how the window frames the doe in this, but understand your concern about the contrast.
If you ran the image through a noiseware program and then used the shadow/highlights tool and the brightness/contrast followed by hue/saturation tools in Photoshop then you may be able to get an image with a little more depth, see my attachment.
It’s all really a case of playing about with the software (on a copy of course) until you get the required results. Most images can be improved in this way and very few are beyond redemption.
Once adjusted this is a super image with the attention focused right where it should be…..nice capture Jan, well done!

Hello Jan.

Sometimes the best effects in photos happen by accident, due to circumstance. I wouldn't worry too much about the low contrast, even though this image could have been sharper, etc. I think the diffusion caused by shooting through the window creates a soft quality here that really goes well with the gentle nature of the deer.

Jason.

Yep...she's looking for a winter home for her family Jan.... watch-out ..You'll open your back door one day and there they'll all be sleeping ! I've seen it happen before !ha!!!

Ps. Yes, we do seem to jump to many varieties in our photographic images and not why not ?

Best Wishes,
Michele~

Thanks for commenting, Phillip. She is a friendly one for a wild animal but there is some "cheating" involved. One of my vegetable garden beds is outside this back window and she likes to munch on the tastey leaves (&*^%$#@!).

Doyle-- thanks for the comments and the good advice. I think your suggestion is spot on now that you point it out. I was taken with the idea of "proving" it was a window shot so I did no careful consideration just how much of that window should be included. This is something I really need to work on; taking multiple "looks" during post processing to make sure I really convey the best message. Thanks again for this suggestion and the sample crop.
--Best regards, Jan

Good shot with some rich, natural looking colors. You certainly nailed a great DOF here . . . the foreground blur is significantly stronger than the BG blur . . . but they combine to draw the eye to the sharp image of the doe. No suprise to see my wife's comment long before I saw this (and it's nature). LoL!

I gotta say that the cropping here (or lack of it) is essentially (in my opinion) a distraction. I like it to a degree . . . but the reality is that the quantity seems to me to overpower the key to this composition . . . the inquiring eyes of the cute young doe.
Normally reflections in glass panes are a distraction too . . . but in this case they're a plus since they are really what you're trying to show . . . a window view of a deer . . . not a deer . . . if you follow me. There IS a difference. The window view and the proximity of the subject is really very well done and the scene has its allure (see aforementioned comment by Marlyce) . . . but I think I'd trim some of the excess. This will also pull the doe out into a rule of thirds area nicely.

I'm liking your work very much Jan . . . creative and refreshing approaches to subjects are a great strength in it!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Elisa-- thanks for viewing and commenting. She is a sweet and gentle creature (but we don't feed her). Years ago we tried feeding the backyard wild life and we were soon over-run by every animal for miles around. Now just a few come by and munch on our flowers and vegetables.

Thanks, Laura-- I was shooting through two panes of glass and of course got the diffusion that would be expected. I punched up the contrast and color a bit before posting but some got lost in the posting process itself. Not as much contrast as I had hoped for.

Pretty good focus considering you shot through the glass. Colors, light and details are all good. Your DOF is wonderful, with foreground and background blurred.
