In the past I have tried to take the same capture by using my canon 100-400L but I have not obtained similar results.

No, this is a single exposure. I took many pictures at different exposures and did some editing of levels in Photo Studio to get a good balance between the light and dark.
This was taken at ISO 100, F2.8, 2 seconds shutter.

Very beautiful capture. Is the capture made by a composition of two capture of the same subject taken at different exposition?
