Thanks again Annemette.
I find this kind of image fascinating myself. I think it is one of those kinds of images that different people see in different ways. Some might be repulsed instead of attracted. Some might find this kind of thing hard to look and others find it hard to look away. Maybe skulls remind us of our own mortality?
I did a few more that are in my "darker side" portfolio using a few different Photoshop techniques. Check them out if you like.

Very nice image that works well in B/W both visually, but also because of the skull itself and what it represents.
It reminds me of all the times especially as a child when I went out in the forest at Springtime collecting bones and skulls from deceased animals that didn´t make it through the winter. Well, I still collect bones. I don´t regard them as spooky, but very natural as you wrote:-)
Best wishes
Annemette

A true talent! So many people see her shots and had posters on their walls of her images of John Lennon, Jagger and Richards, Bob Dylan, etc. etc.
Andre
ps
Naturally my personal favourites are from the shoot with Linda Rondstat in the red lingerie :)
Now this is way off subject!

Hi Leo,
I like her work too. I remember seeing some of her images before I knew any photographers names. There are quite a few other photographers that do some strange images that got me interested in photography in the early seventies.
Another favourite photographer of mine is actually Annie Leibovitz, who did a lot of great work for Rolling Stone Magazine. What a job!

Thanks Leo,
I agree, The red version was for a little fun in photoshop. I liked it too, but my heart is still with B&W.

Thanks Thilo,
Nicole Kidman has finished a movie on the life of Diane Arbus. A photographer that really specialized in "weird images" I'm sure you have seen many of her famous works. There is a strange appeal to images that bother us and attract at the same time. I suppose this is the reason for Carnival Freak shows and Horror Movies.

I think is more STRONG in B&W...

Thanks Ina,
The size seemed about right for a Red Fox, so we will go with that :)

Hi Andre,

well, interesting find and perfectly placed into your darker side section. The BW treatment adds a lot to the image.

best wishes,
Thilo

You're right, Andre. I googled "Fox Skull" in google images and it does have big teeth. In fact it looks like a red fox skull.

Hi again Ina,
I'll bet foxes do have pretty good size teeth. It's just that they are such nice innocent looking animals, you wouldn't suspect them have such big teeth. Just like in Little Red Riding Hood.... Okay, that was a wolf, but same idea.

Andre, I thought of a fox, but I don't know if they have such big front teeth. Perhaps a young coyote is a better guess. Great pictures from the darkside :)

Thanks Allen,
I prefer the B&W version too for the photography.
I thought the image would lend itself to some fantasy photoshop work too.

Thanks for commenting on this one Ina.
I found this poor guy on a not so travelled part of the Rouge Marsh. My forensic skills were not so great. So, that could be one of the reasons why it is hard to identify. The jaws and skull were all apart and parially covered, so I put them together loosely for the image, like a jig-saw puzzle. It was too big for a cat or racoon, but too small for a coyote. My best guess is a fox or smaller dog.
A bit of a gruesome image like some others from my dark side portfolio, but something different for a change.

Well planed shot. I like this one in b&w the best.

Hi Andre! Very striking image, I'm trying to guess what animal this is - a dog, a wolf, or a mythical dragon? Definitely a carnivore by the long canine teeth. It has such a strange upper jaw curvature, and because the skull has been preserved intact, it looks as if it died in pain, with its mouth open, looking almost like a "rictus grin." A great find, and very good photograph. Your use of harsh light in B & W, very appropriate, with dark contrasts and stunning detail. Very powerful stuff, well done! Ina
