Beautiful capture. I did look at several of the comments and they all have merit, however I would only crop just below the faded branch above the bird's head, as the branches detract from the absolute beauty of the bird.....and it is a plumb beautiful baby!

Thanks Annemette for your nice comments. Good point regarding more space behind the bird. I have printed a version of this image for framing which does have more space behind the bird.

All the best,
Joe

Excellent! The clarity and DOF is awesome. Beautiful fragile tones. I like how the branches find a sort of balance having almost the same angle in the two corners of the photo. I would have left a tiny bit more space behind the bird.
Best wishes
Annemette

Hi Harry,
Thanks very much for your help and input. The art of photography is a very personal, subjective thing. Everyone has their own tastes and opinion. That's what makes it so exciting and interesting. There are really no rules, just guidelines that are really there to be broken. Feedback from the people in this community, like you, help us all expand and improve upon our art. I will work with the suggestions and settings that you have provided in my efforts to create the elusive perfect image.

Thanks again, have a great day,
Joe

Thanks Ina for the detailed comments and feedback. There are a lot of chickadees around here. It's nice to hear their distinctive call. We have a feeder for them but I have noticed that they seem to be very good at foraging for themselves on the seeds that nature has to offer. They are friendly and good subjects unlike the beautiful male cardinal in the neighbourhood who will not let me get near him.

All the best,
Joe

Hi Joe, did slightly sharpening, fade 81% tonality 75% radius @82 pixels, on colors I choose selective; Red, Magenta, Yellow, Black.
I guess my reworked version gives some idea!!!Besides I have seen many applauding comments
for works that truly safer for a constructive advice...but...its all politics.
Thank you for been cool!
Harry

Awesome chickadee picture, Joe! The colors are gorgeous, it could be a perfect postcard/ greeting card for winter! Superb definition and DOF, great eye highlight and perfect pose :) I miss these little guys - we used to go in the Hamilton Arboretum and feed them... Now it's too far, I hope someone else does it, as they are very people friendly and super-cute :) Ina

Joe -- I have no cropping suggestions, I just like the picture. The variations of cropping all have their merit but the little guy in the photo carries the day just about any way you show him. (Could be a her but I have no idea!). Love the fat little body, the beady eye and the great colors. Thanks for bringing the little fellow my way.

Hi Joe... another great shot here. I like this version, though I think your crop on the right is just a bit tight. My preference would have been not to cut off the tail and leave just a bit of space between it and the edge. I do also like your original uncropped version as it gives a good overview of what you were dealing with. I also like the cropped view in the 3rd image of your comments though I would have placed the bird just a bit lower in the frame. Again, when you start off with a good shot, there are numerous crops that "work". I think you are right in that this view is more artistic. Have a great weekend. Cheers, Gary

Thanks Riccardo for your input. It is interesting to see everyone's preferences. All of these options have merit. I feel the original composition has a nice artistic flair. The relatively large area of mottled bg with the out of focus branches at the top left gives the image depth and adds interest.

All the best,
Joe

Thanks Harry for reworking on my image. I see you have removed the signature and frame, made a small crop to the left and top and enhanced the colours. Do you recall what you did to enhance the image?

Excellent details, great capture!
I suggest little crop from the top (play with the frame), and rearrange your signature to the left..or.. smaller characters!
Cheers,
Harry
