About Another shot of Amanda in her new place.

I placed a strobe in the other room to light up the leaded glass doors behind her.

That's a nice effect on this shot, and goes well with the outfit, Taran. Thanks for the suggestion.

Paul,

Yes to the first part exactly... ;)

Your welcome my friend...

I see what you’re saying on the second part, because her upper body is a bit hot already. But I think by dropping the Main light using your soft box at waist level would solve all of the issues regarding this wonderful capture... ;)

Well done my friend,

Martin

That's the choice I made when cropping for 8x10, Roger. The focus here is really her face & shoulders, and even the ambient highlights are above shoulder level, so I had no concerns cropping at the ankle.

I think that's a pretty good idea, Marin.
If I understand you, I could have brought the light down to her eye level, and perhaps swing it around a bit.

Thanks!
As for 'splitting the difference' between exposure ranges, I usually don't. Since I'm taking the time to meter, I place the meter where I want my attention to be (eyes and lips, usually). If her feet are underexposed, I'd prefer to lighten 'em afterward instead of risking overexposing her face.

Paul,

Ok, here goes. I know you shoot better than I do, but this is a learning site, so this is my critique... ;)

Please correct me if I'm wrong in any aspect regarding my comment!

The strobe in the other room is an "Awesome" and wonderful Idea... :) And it works very well on this effect, indeed. It tends to fade more powerful contrast to the right, which is very cool...

However, I have viewed some of your latest work and you tend to put the main light above the subjects head, but with this one I would drop the main strobe to her waist line for a more dramatic effect... That way the backlight and main are consistent... Both are going in the same direction...

Please allow me to explain, because this model has a very light completion and the foreground is very dark it would bring out the capture very nicely...

Even if you drop the main light to waist level it still would be a challenge, but you have a Sekonic hand held light meter and you could take a reading of the light falling upon her face, then take one on her feet and split the difference. Then set your camera accordingly.

An Ideal capture would be ISO 100 using a shutter speed of 100-125 @ f/5.6, but we all must compromise at times... ;)

Well done my friend,

Martin

Yes, Marty. I have a Sekonic L-358 flash meter; why?

Paul,

I'm not trying to be funny, but do you have a hand held light meter?

Please answer this question and I can help a little bit regarding this capture... ;)

Lovely, Paul. Maybe better if you had included all of her feet, but still good.:)
