About Built in 1899 on Railroad Avenue in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the Rawlins Building was one of the few buildings in New Mexico with a pressed tin facade. Though in deteriorated condition, the Rawlins Building remains an outstanding architectural landmark. The recessed storefronts are intact. The upper story boasts a row of engaged Ionic columns and swag panels.

The Harvey girls who staffed La Castaneda's dining room across the street lived here for many years during the early 20th century. You can just make out the faded "Rooms" sign above the center door.

Shot at 1/4 second, ISO 1600, f5.0. Again, this is the first serious shoot with a new 10-20mm lens, and I was aiming for this concave effect. Shot in monochrome.

Thank you for clarifying that, Ian. You had me worried for a moment. I'll keep my eye out for the problem.

Don't panic Dave!
My understanding is it was a quality control flaw and NOT design! It happened in some lenses and then only intermittently.
Look for softness on one side, I think in one quadrant. I don't think it matters what focal length your at, the guys that had the problem found it a lot (maybe a third of the time) but couldn't work out what particular situation brought it on. It happened to some people and they were able to return it of course, there were no complaints about sigma honouring warranties at all, but some had to do that a couple of times before getting the beautiful lens they wanted. I just spent 20 minutes searching for the problme again and only found one reference to it, the story was that it is on the right but I seem to remember it was the left so my memory is way less relibale than the lens.
I haven't seen an example of the problem, only anecdotes. Maybe it was a bad batch.
I'm not in the market yet but have sen a LOT of shots with it that make me yearn.
Just typing 10-20mm makes me feel restless and melancholic about my smc 18-whatever that i have with the 1.5 conversion factor on my digital slr.
Congratulationss on your purchase, as they say.

Thanks, Ian... uh oh, please tell me more about the problems with this lens... I get so sick and tired of finding out about flaws AFTER being told it is the best choice....

Like your last, I love that underexposure here, that left nice tone sceles and a goldy way of lighting that gives more mood, excellent shot that too and presst spooky!

Pressed tin! how extravagant! Nice work. Dream of getting that lens, hope it's not one of the ones with the flaw I've seen described in chat rooms. Digital users all over the place must be feling increasingly frustrated at the width issue.

The distortion from the wide-angle adds to the ominous feeling of this interesting old building, Cap'n.:)
