About Do not pass.

Woohooo... 5 hours of shooting lightning from Albuquerque to home... what a night! Even I was scared.

This was shot on a hill above Albuquerque as this storm moved in behind and on top of me while I shot a cityscape full of lightning raining down on the city.

Of course, I painted the "road closed" sign with a red covered flashlight during the 25 second exposure.

Thanks, Shirley. Believe me, as I left the city and climbed this hill, watching the lightning over the city as well as approaching, I argued with myself. At the time I passed the one exit for the "west hills", my smart side was winning so I kept going.

But at the second exit, the last one on the horizon, my stupid side said "well, maybe just have a look but no pictures, stay in the truck". It was nothing more than a ruse to win the smart side over.

Before long... I was shooting. Worth it? If I get to 40 comments... yeah... LOL.

Thanks, Michele. When I decided to use the Road Closed sign as a foreground, I thought it is either going to be a great pic or a stupid one. I think it turned out well, actually.

Best wishes,
Dave

Thank you, John... it was a very intense storm(s)... heck of a light show. I wish I could have used a few minute exposure but there was just so many flashes, they'd have washed out.

Best wishes,
Dave

Gorgeous shot Dave, I'm envious of so many strikes within 25sec.? I too am addicted to lightning photography, this is one of the best compositions (w/roadsign color) that I've seen. Very nicely done. -john

That is a really nice photograph. I love storms. We don't get anything like as good thunderstorms over here in the UK unfortunately!

I bet you were saying to yourself.....get closer...get closer... then when the lightning was overhead..."errm that's close enough !"

This is pretty impressive! I am not sure whther this is a testament to your devotion to your craft or your foolhardiness ignoring your body's fear signals telling you to get yourself outa there. Either way, very impressive image. CC

Amazing as always Dave. Emphasize the opportunity, the technique,(as ever) and the message in the image : Do not pass, road closed, risk of lightning. The boss....

Best wishes.

Now a very inspiring night photography which has used long exposure technique as well as the finding this rare view angle.
and you were lucky for the mood and lines of Lightning which completes the emoty space all arround your shot.
thanks for share Dave and finally:
your current email address?!

Thanks Brigitte. No, the road was a dead end on a hill over the city. I thought it would look different composing with the sign and the background lightning.

Best to ya!

Looks like a hair-raising experience. Was the road closed due to the storms - flash flooding? The photo is excellent as always. It's amazing how some of the veins in the lightening are different colors and how your camera picked that up... I see white, blue and even some reddish/yellowish colors. Glad you didn't get zapped in the process...
