Just take your time and study your instruction book that comes with your camera...most people never read what it says there. It will help you to understand the technical side of photography... the rest is in your heart, your feeling and your eyes... You made a nice start and I am sure you will enjoy photography as much as I did when I started at the age of 14 which is many years back. I have always enjoyed this wonderful hobby and so will YOU. I wish you good luck and many, many good pictures in this website. GOOD LIGHT for shooting pictures.
gail, the only suggestion here is you could do two things, either get closer or go back a little.. as a Beginner, you have already grasped the concept of using min Depth of Focus, as remainder of the zebra is out of focus. So you got your concept and handling of the camera's aperture settings right. When i suggested that you get closer, you just want to concentrate only on the stripes without the eyes nor ears, leaving the viewer to his/her imagination as what it is. Or if you pan back a little the zebra's mouth would be visible. You were in the middle. I also have a Canon EOS Elan IIe and have posted many shots here on this Forum using that camera. My latest one using Canon is.. http://www.usefilm.com/showphoto.php?id=135316
